The Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) is responsible for the safe, reliable, and economic planning and operation of the Alberta Interconnected Electric System. We provide open and non-discriminatory access to Alberta’s interconnected power grid and also facilitate Alberta’s competitive wholesale electricity market. - Provide support in preparing for and executing stakeholder consultation sessions.
- Support legal counsel in providing verbal and written legal advice on issues relevant to the AESO, including both commercial and regulatory matters.
- Conduct legal research and draft memoranda to communicate findings.
- Assist with the AESO’s participation in regulatory proceedings held by the Alberta Utilities Commission and with litigation files if/as they arise.
- Develop an understanding of the AESO’s mandate, relevant legislation, government policies and industry issues.
- Assist in the drafting and development of AESO authoritative documents.
- Develop a knowledge management database of legal and regulatory opinions and materials.
- Assist in responding to requests for information, preparing guidance documents and training materials.
- You thrive in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary and dynamic environment.
- You have a curious mind and enjoy research.
- You have excellent written and spoken communication skills and experience dealing with technical information.
- You enjoy balancing multiple files and projects.
- You have an interest in the regulatory framework of Alberta’s electricity industry.
- You enjoy collaborating with a wide variety of people on projects and programs and participating in lively debate.
- Strong legal research skills and computer literacy.
- Previous related work and volunteer experience is an asset.
- A Bachelor of Laws or a Juris doctor Degree from a faculty of common law at a Canadian university or an equivalent qualification.
- Eligibility to article as a student-at-law within the Province of Alberta as of May 2023
- Continuation of your salary while attending CPLED modules.
