We are actively seeking candidates for the position of Airport Operations Specialist for the Detour Lake Mine Airport in North Eastern Ontario. This exciting opportunity will take you off the beaten path and allow you to work 2 weeks a month with an equal pay plan ensuring a weekly paycheck, in addition to perks such as overtime and monthly travel allowances. What you'll do

  • Work in accordance with the regulations of Transport Canada and industry best practices related to emergency response, wildlife management, winter maintenance, and the operation of aerodrome maintenance equipment
  • Undertake below-wing activities, such as aircraft marshalling, aircraft ground handling, baggage/cargo handling, and aircraft de-icing
  • Perform airfield/runway inspections and wildlife inspections and control
  • Perform minor maintenance of airfield equipment in a safe and professional manner
  • Assist with emergency responses and security
  • Provide aerodrome advisory services to air traffic and escort persons and vehicles located airside
  • Participate in the safety management system
  • Operate various equipment, including loaders, graders, snow blowers, and single and tandem axle trucks used for summer and winter maintenance activities
  • Perform minor and preventative maintenance of airfield electrical systems, including preventative maintenance requirements for the job site
  • Operate and perform maintenance on chainsaws, hand tools, and power tools Attend and participate in airport training and safety programs


What you'll bring to the table

  • Computer skills
  • A heavy equipment operator’s certificate is an asset
  • Criminal record check
  • A valid “D” driver’s license with a “Z” brake endorsement is required
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Communication skills (written and verbal) to respond to customers and to interpret instructions and procedural manuals.
  • Ability to analyze situations in order to problem solve effectively
  • Clean drivers’ abstract
  • Ability to lift 30kg and work standing for periods of time
  • Grade 12 secondary school education

Qualifications considered an asset

  • A pilot’s license
  • A valid AZ license
  • Level 2 aviation management course or equivalent experience
  • An aeronautical radio license


Working conditions

  • Winter hours may vary (based on snowfall)
  • This fly-in position departs from Timmins or Cochrane, Ontario, with flight costs covered.
  • Benefits include an annual health spending account and a clothing and boot allowance
  • Excellent accommodation and meals are provided at Detour mine
  • Standard weekly pay allows you to work two weeks a month and get paid equally throughout the month Overtime for any shift exceeding 12 hours.
  • Full-time permanent position; 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off work schedule
  • Collect an additional monthly travel allowance to support your travel to and from Timmons or Cochrane, ON.

Applicants with equipment operations experience will be considered a priority, and we are willing to offer airport-specific training to experienced machine operators.
