The Opportunity
4-8 month work term: Sept-Apr
How You Will Contribute
The 6500 Router is the flagship product of Ciena’s Packet Optical Transport Portfolio. Optical networks continue to aggressively move towards Layer 0/1/2 converged infrastructures. As part of this more Data Networking and services are available on 6500 products.
Reporting to the senior manager, Routing/IP Software Engineering, you will join the 6500 team to deliver on optical and ethernet network solutions: Hybrid Layer 0/1/2/3 switching (OTN / Ethernet / MPLS / Routing / Segment Routing / Yang / L3VPN / and others).

• Working closely with Senior Designers who will provide mentoring and coaching.
• You will develop applications which extend the capabilities of the 6500 system/platform.
• You will support in testing activities in the release where feature is delivered.
• Collaborating with other design and test support teams.
• Partake in coding and testing of the software (Python programming, embedded C programming)
• Assist in the development of embedded, real-time software for telecommunications systems.

The Must Haves

• Python, C / C++ programming language experience
• Scripting experience, Go, BASH
• Familiarity with datacom & telecom concepts such as Ethernet, TCP/IP, Routing Protocols
• Experience with design and development tools such as: Git, Eclipse, JIRA, Confluence, GDB
• Working towards a post-secondary degree in engineering or computer science
• Automation and Test
• Low-level Real-Time Software/Firmware Development
• Linux, VxWorks OS
