Senior Litigation Counsel Jobs

There are two permanent, full-time positions available. Salary is commensurate with experience.

· initiate and conduct enforcement proceedings before the BCSC;

· represent BCSC staff in all levels of court;

· work closely with other litigation counsel and investigation staff in preparing and presenting cases;

· make recommendations and provide enforcement related legal opinions based on BCSC priorities and objectives; and

· liaise with other securities regulators and law enforcement agencies.

Apply accounting and auditing skills, in a forensic capacity, on specific projects

Experience in a professional services firm is preferred

Strong financial analysis/modeling skills and understanding of financial statements

University degree in business, accounting or finance

Experience with Alteryx, Tableau and Microsoft Power BI would be an advantage

Experiences And Skills You’ll Use To Solve

Strong experience working in a professional services firm;

Assisting with the design and development of well-supported financial analysis to address a wide variety of legal allegations;

Preparing working paper files with documentation of procedures performed and evidence obtained;

Performing client pre-acceptance procedures including conflict checks, client investigation checks and drafting engagement letters;

Proven ability to execute on valuation and/or litigation support mandates;

In-depth knowledge of investment dealer or mutual fund dealer rules, requirements and guidance

Demonstrated experience in leading projects and/or transactions

Experience in regulatory policy development would be an asset

Compliance or legal experience at an investment dealer or mutual fund dealer firm would be an asset

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including legal research and drafting skills

Ability to take initiative, prioritize, manage time appropriately, and work independently with minimal supervision

Issue legal opinions based on facts and applicable law while ensuring proper risk management

Manage files entrusted to external law firms

3 to 5 years of experience working in a private practice and/or in the legal department of a large company

Experience in litigation, dispute prevention and dispute resolution

Knowledge in the areas of law mentioned above (an asset)

Strong writing, analytical, negociation and communication skills

Advise the Company on risk management and prevention, including support of product development, testing, and marketing

Advising on insurance regulatory matters (such as but not limited to contemplated new after-sales protection product offerings)

Review and continuous process improvements re: customer complaint handling & relevant documentation requirements

Strong communication skills - interpersonal and written

Experience advising on automotive matters is considered an asset

French language skills are considered an asset.

Develop and maintain privacy policies, procedures, and guidelines that align with legal requirements and industry best practices.

Seven years experience in private practice (or a portion in house) focused on Privacy, Data Protection or Technology.

Experience advising on data protection impact assessments, incident response, and breach notification procedures.

Privacy certification (e.g., CIPP/E, CIPP/US) is highly desirable.

Working collaboratively with investigators, evidence analysts and other litigation counsel to prepare for and assist in conducting hearings and appeals.

Preparing legal memoranda that provide an assessment of and recommendations for each assigned case.

Conducting legal research in relation to Enforcement files.
