Our expectations

Within the Legal Department and under the responsibility of a senior legal counsel, the chosen candidate will be primarily responsible for assisting the various departments of the company in litigation management, litigation prevention, compliance and contract drafting. This position would suit someone interested in a variety of areas of law (including consumer law litigation, advertising law, construction law and general commercial and transactional law).

Your role

• Issue legal opinions based on facts and applicable law while ensuring proper risk management
• Act as a lead on certain files or as a collaborator on legal files
• Ensure a monitoring role to understand and anticipate trends and make appropriate recommendations
• Manage files entrusted to external law firms
• Perform legal and factual research
• Work collaboratively with other departments to provide clear, practical and timely legal advice in a manner consistent with the direction of the business

The Qualifications We Are Looking For

• Ability to work under pressure with a diverse cast of customers, as well as to effectively manage priorities and a large volume of projects at once
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and to take initiative
• Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite
• We require all our head office associates to be proficient in French, spoken and written.
• Strong interest in legal and factual research
• 3 to 5 years of experience working in a private practice and/or in the legal department of a large company

• Member of the Barreau du Québec
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and good practical mind
• Leadership, motivation, self-confidence, diplomatic and professional attitude
• Knowledge in the areas of law mentioned above (an asset)
• Member of another recognized bar (an asset)
• Client-oriented approach and team player
• Strong writing, analytical, negociation and communication skills
• Rigor, versatility and sense of organization and priorities
• Experience in litigation, dispute prevention and dispute resolution
