One year minimum experience caring for those with dementia and/or the geriatric population

Food Handlers certification is an asset or will train

PIECES and/or Montessori certification preferred

Be the Shift-leader on the floor supporting and supervising the Associates on-shift

While on shift you will be responsible for up to 18 residents and the supervision of 1-3 Resident Associates (PSWs)

At least 1 year of full-time clinical nursing or nursing education experience (or the equivalent in part-time experience).

3+ years of acute care experience acquired withing the last 10 years or work.

Previous formal or informal teaching experience is an asset.

Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to teach individuals at different skill levels.

Advanced skills in conflict resolution and problem solving.

Strong oral communication and writing skills.

Develop, implement, review and evaluate resident care plans

Provide leadership to personal care staff by planning, directing, supervising and evaluating their work

Assist in orienting and training new team members

Current registration with the provincial College of Nurses

Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English

Assisting in the management of the work of nursing and personal care staff.

Previous similar experience in long-term care an asset, with comprehensive knowledge of duties.

Excellent communication (verbal and written) and comprehension skills.

Developed creative problem-solving skills to look at the “big picture”.

Ensuring exceptional resident care is provided while following protocols and maintaining physicians’ orders.

Observing, reporting, and recording vital signs, symptoms, and conditions of residents, and initiate remedial health measures where appropriate.
