Lead Fisheries Biologist Jobs

Consulting environment or equivalent: 3 years (preferred)

Leading and coaching small to medium-sized teams: 1 year (preferred)

Registration as a Professional Biologist in Alberta (required)

Alberta Class 5 Driver's License (preferred)

What You Need To Succeed

Robust skills in databases and data management

Demonstrated project management skills – must know how to complete work to deadlines, applying strategic thinking where necessary

Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion

Capacity to work pragmatically to extract key messages relevant to conservation management

Additional experience in related work preferred.

Thorough knowledge of the conservation impacts of fisheries, ideally in bottom trawling

Ability to set priorities effectively and problem solve, including early identification and management of risks, with strong attention to detail

Project management training is an asset or demonstrated ability to manage projects through to completion within budget and timeframes

Establish and manage workplans, budgets, and provide direction to any contractors or staff

Exceptional oral and written communication skills, and demonstrated ability to create compelling content and copy

Design skills with the ability to develop creative content and understanding of current trends in communications

Ability to manage strategic partnerships and work in partnership with First Nations communities and organizations

Grade 12 with two years related experience (Post-secondary education preferred);

Other duties as identified by HNC Resource Managers (Office or Field),

Experience maintaining and operating marine engines, marine radios and GPS systems;

Experience operating jet boats, inboard/outboard powered boats, and/or fishing vessels;

Conduct fisheries research and environmental monitoring within Haisla territorial lands & waters;

Operate HNC field equipment, including vessels and machinery in a safe & responsible manner,

Post-secondary degree in public administration, Indigenous studies, environmental studies, resource management, or a related field, plus minimum five years of experience

Strong budget management/forecasting; human resource skills including planning; and the ability to develop workplans

Develop and manage workplans, budgets, and reporting requirements

Oversee management of Intergovernmental Relations Coordinator

A knowledgeable manager who understands BC First Nations relations and environmental issues

Demonstrated experience in stakeholder and government relations

Environmental Monitoring and Construction Environmental Management Planning.

Estimated Annual Salary: $100,000 to $145,000, depending on qualifications and experience.

Have a minimum of 10 years of consulting and/or industry experience providing biology services in BC.

Responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to:

Leading and growing our new biosciences division, with the support of a team of other senior environmental professionals.
