Forestry Operator Jobs

Current or past enrollment in a forestry or natural resources management program, and/or forestry work experience

Supervision of planting, vegetation management, and site preparation activities to ensure compliance with Canfor’s safety, environmental, and quality standards

Excellent communication skills and an ability to perform physically demanding fieldwork in a team environment

Timber stratification and preliminary feature identification using Lidar data and imagery

Site level plans and ecosystem data collection

Field information mapping stream and riparian assessments

Has considerable knowledge of the principles, practices, standards and guidelines used in urban park natural area management.

Strong organizational, time management, record-keeping and computer skills.

Experience supervising staff and strong leadership skills.

Completing a variety of manual and semi-skilled tasks including but not limited to:

Has superior public relations, interpersonal, communication, organizational and leadership skills.

Experience with power tools (brush saw, hedge trimmer, backpack blowers) and hand tools (shovels, picks, hand snips, loppers, hand saws).

Portfolio project management with includes demonstrated proficiency in project management, stakeholder engagement and change management programs.

Deep and expansive experience in enterprise-wide project implementation from a financial, operational, legal and regulatory perspective.

Strong business acumen with experience working in a unionized work environment.

12+ yeas progressive experience in a related field.

Develop and oversee the Forestry Services business strategy to achieve planned objectives, measurable through a Board approved scorecard.

Accountable for the safety performance, financial performance and operational performance of the Forestry Services Team.

Coordinate with production manager and inside sales personnel to adjust sales mix to meet production requirements

An understanding of lumber product grades and their application is a requirement

Administer cedar sales into an established customer base

Sell cedar lumber into targeted North American markets

Create and add value by achieving further downstream market penetration

Identify and develop value added opportunities that address production opportunities

4-6 years of relevant sales experience

Post Secondary Forestry education and 3 years related experience is preferred.Other experience levels will be considered.

Cutting permit development:Block and Road layout and associated assessments.

Forest sampling: Timber Cruising, Waste and Residue surveys.

Minimum (5) years experience in Urban Forestry field along with (3)years experience supervising unionized and contracted staff;

Solid computer literacy with knowledge of MS Office especially INFOR/CITY WORKS and extensive knowledge of spreadsheet applications

Knowledgeable of Occupational Health & Safety Act, Highway Traffic Act, Employment Standards Act and other applicable legislation and standards

University degree or Community College Diploma in, Arboriculture, Forestry or related program;

Demonstrated ability to effectively deal with the public.

Safety & Awareness for Line Clearing Certificate (IHSA)

A minimum of 3 years of field project management in Alberta including harvest block & road layout and sample plot programs;

Post-secondary education with a diploma or degree in forestry;

Registered, or meet the registration requirements, with the AAFMP as an RPF or RPFT;

Experience with harvesting operations is an asset;

Strong organizational and problem-solving skills;

Valid driver's license with a clean abstract.

Two (2) years of experience performing duties related to the above mentioned major responsibilities

Demonstrated experience within an arboriculture and/or urban forestry work environment

Demonstrate professional experience pruning and removing all sizes of hazardous trees

Demonstrated experience performing all tree maintenance/arboriculture duties in accordance to the International Society of Arboriculture

Demonstrated professional experience operating chain saws, pole saws, bucket trucks, crane trucks, and chippers

Working knowledge of the following principles and standards: all aspects of urban arboriculture; chainsaw maintenance

Strong technical, functional, and professional knowledge and skills in Arboriculture; knowledge of current developments, innovation and trends in Arboriculture

Familiar with AINSI Standards and Arboriculture Best Management Practices

Maintain records and documentations related to the work, including schedules, work orders and safety inspections and training certifications

Minimum of 5 years experience in Arboriculture with a minimum of 2 years supervising staff

TRAQ Certified or experience with Tree Risk Assessment and documentation

Excellent written and verbal communication skills and organizational skills

Proven analytical, organization, and project management skills

Implementing Hampton’s safety, environmental, and forest certification plans

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
