Proven experience in the preparation of project specifications for material and equipment purchase and installation

Extensive experience in electrical power and distribution design, fault protection and protective relay design for power utilities is a plus

Extensive knowledge of components utilized in switch-mode power supply design

Agency compliance (UL, CSA, VDE, CE) experience

Experience in designing products for testability and manufacturability

Experience in designing microcontrollers to report and control power electronics

Advanced problem-solving and time-management skills

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Exceptional administrative and interpersonal skills

Previous experience working in a post-secondary environment (preferred)

Simulation and audio-visual experience (asset)

Proficient with Microsoft Office 365

Reports to project management team on status and schedule of work.

Manages several different assignments simultaneously.

At least 10 years’ experience performing electrical design in the any one of the oil and gas, power or industrial industries.

Experience in construction support, facilities commissions and startup and previous experience directing junior engineers is desirable.

Experience with electrical equipment (Transformers, Switchgear, Cables, MCCs, Panelboards) sizing and specification.

Knowledge of industry codes, guidelines and regulatory standards.

Overview Of Certifications And Job Requirements

Knowledge of system simulation software: PSSe, CYME

Knowledge of dynamic analysis: system stability, machine start-up, machine control

Knowledge of machine controls: control settings, transfer function, control schematic

Programming knowledge: Python and MATLAB

At least 2 years of experience in the power systems industry

15+ year in station and P&C design experience

Prior experience as an owner's engineer

Develop conceptual design with multiple bus configuration options for stations;

Cost estimation of various configurations and options;

Develop preliminary design, general arrangement and layout, elevations and section drawings;

Participate in environmental submission and regulatory approvals;

Experience with project evaluation, database management, online literature searches and web-based applications (including WordPress and social media management) an asset.
