Job Summary And Requirements
This is an until –filled competition. Candidates are encouraged not to delay submitting their application as this posting can close at any time with 24-hours posted notice. Resumes will be screened at regular intervals until the position is filled or the competition closes, whichever is earliest.
This posting is to immediately fill casual and auxiliary on call positions.
This posting will also be used to fill anticipatory permanent positions.
The Young Offenders' Facility is committed to providing care and supervision to young persons in both secure and open custody settings. Carrying out these duties requires a thorough recognition of the importance of Yukon First Nations' cultures and traditions. As a Youth Service Worker, you will focus on providing direct care, support and supervision to at-risk youth who experience behavioral and/or emotional dysregulation. In addition, you will provide young offenders with a safe and secure environment in which to grow and learn, while supervising youth behavior and activities. This includes acting as a representative of the Young Offenders' Facility.
We are looking for individuals who are energetic, flexible, organized, and who are self-starters that possess excellent communication skills. Further, we are looking for individuals who are able to engage youth in collaborative crisis management through remaining calm, patient and regulated.

Essential Qualifications
Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet the following qualifications - specifically - how your work experiences and related duties align with the essential qualifications shown below.   • Experience delivering various programs to youth.
  • Diploma in Social Services or Corrections from a recognized institution;
  • Experience working with at-risk youth (12 - 17 years)
Candidates who have education, training and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may be equally considered.
Desired Knowledge, Skills And Suitability
Candidates should have and may be assessed on the following:
  • Strong team player with the ability to ask for help when needed and have excellent interpersonal skills.
  • A genuine interest in working with at-risk youth and strive to engage these youth in an open and positive manner.
  • An understanding of the issues these youth face and the ability to exhibit flexibility and creativity when facing some of the challenges inherent in this environment.
  • Ability to stay self-aware at all times and be aware of how own behavior impacts others.
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful environments and manage conflict without demonstrating aggressive behaviors.
  • Effective communication, while displaying tact, good judgment and maintaining confidentiality.
Additional Information
Conditions of Employment: RCMP Security Clearance with Vulnerable Sector; valid Yukon Driver's Licence; current TB Screening; current First Aid/CPR Level C.
Job Requirements: Shift work, including evenings and weekends.
