About The Role


As the Youth Justice Community Support Services Worker, you will be a critical part of VincentCare's Youth Justice Homeless Pathways Initiative and you will be providing housing and case management support for young people.


Using a client-centered approach, you will work alongside young people who are on a Youth Justice order and are at risk of / experiencing homelessness. Providing advocacy and assistance from step-one, you will be responsible for the initial assessment of housing and support needs, developing comprehensive case planning services to these groups, and collaborating with different support services to achieve the best outcome for your clients.


Additionally, you will also be a part of the Youth Justice Homelessness Assistance program, which supports young people aged 17-22 years at Youth Justice Precincts across Victoria who are experiencing/at risk of homelessness, or whose release may be delayed due to a lack of appropriate accommodation options. You will work to assist going people to either be diverted from the homelessness service system or get access to accommodation and support services through initial assessment and planning.

About You


You are an appropriately qualified professional with experience in providing comprehensive case management, planning and support to assist clients within a homelessness setting.


You have experience in maintaining constructive, empathetic, supportive and respectful working relationships particularly for an integrated service response. Your experience and ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with young people is second to none.


Key Selection Criteria


  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain productive working arrangements with a range of government and non-government stakeholders;
  • An understanding of Youth Justice, homelessness services and the community services sector;
  • Demonstrated understanding of case management principles, including person-centred, strengths-based practices and trauma-informed approaches;
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and high computer literacy.
  • Ability to build and maintain professional rapports with young people;
  • Valid Victorian drivers licence;
  • Experience in working with young people with multiple and complex needs, including mental health, alcohol and other drugs, family violence, justice involvement;
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Social Work, Community Services, or Psychology;
