Youth Counsellor, Addiction – Substance Use Program


Full-Time, Permanent (Benefitted)

As the Virtual Youth Counsellor in the Substance Use program, you’ll met clients with empathy, and use a strengths-based, harm reduction approach to work alongside them on their recovery journey. Through one to one and group sessions you’ll help clients improve their health, social outcomes and overall quality of life; while also providing referrals and connections to other supports and resources to ensure a comprehensive approach to improving their wellness.


This counsellor will provide virtual services across the Thames Valley region to youth.


Successful candidates must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed in the last six months. Interested applicants who reside in the City of London and are in need of a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) are encouraged to apply for one as soon as possible as PVSCs in the City of London are currently taking approximately 2 weeks to be processed and offers of employment cannot be made without receipt of a PVSC.

WHAT WE'RE OFFERING:


  • PSLRTA Notice - This posting characterizes this position as currently non-union. However, please be aware that at the organization on September 29, 2022, a vote was held as a result of an application by the Organization under the Public Sector Labour Relations Transition Act. The result was that employees voted to award OPSEU bargaining rights for all employees. Until such time as a new collective agreement is finalized, current terms and conditions of employment and existing, applicable collective agreements, if any, will remain in force and effect.
  • $28.34 to $31.85 per hour, for those registered with the OCSWSSW (as an RSW), CNO (as an RN), COTO, CRPO, CPSO, or CPO
  • $22.33 to $25.71 per hour, for all those not registered as above
  • Your pension plan - Will be enrolled in the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP)
  • What your benefits will be - After a 90-day waiting period, will be enrolled in health care benefits plan
  • When you'll work - 70 hours over two-week period, Monday to Friday
  • What you'll be making - For this position, rate of pay is based on the individual’s professional college registration status:
  • The above are initial rates, with grid increases as per policy
  • $23.79 to $27.37 per hour, for those registered with the OCSWSSW (as an RSSW), CNO (as RPN)


HOW YOU WILL BE MAKING A DIFFERENCE:


  • Provide peer support
  • Facilitate successful service navigation for clients through empowerment and/or advocacy
  • Share in the provision of Entry / First Contact / Intake Services
  • Provide assessment, treatment planning, referral, advocacy, preliminary case management, community treatment and education as appropriate to youth who have concerns about their substance use
  • Be supportive of and an active participant in the constant evolution and growth of the agency
  • Support Family member(s) with consultations around a loved one’s substance use concerns, and system navigate where appropriate
  • Manage indirect services and administrative duties.
  • Provide coverage for other team members as volunteered/directed.
  • Be available for evening clinical work during regular office hours and on occasion outside of regular hours as needed and when appropriate. Option to be working onsite in office, 1x weekly.
  • Engage with the Crossing Bridges Youth Platform in collaboration with community partners, regarding program development, designated time commitments, utilizing and navigating the website
  • Engage in community development, community awareness, education and outreach as designated and appropriate, representing the agency in a professional manner. On occasion, these services may be provided outside of regular office hours. Education and awareness may include presentations, videos, psychoeducational information etc.
  • Provide client-centred care from a harm reduction approach
  • Manage and meet targets for a clinical caseload and maintain direct service requirements.
  • Engage in community treatment through individual counselling sessions as well as group treatment supports. Engagements in various preventative initiatives targeted to Youth, such as PreVenture.
  • Actively participate in both individual and group supervision and additional community partnership meetings
  • Assist with the orientation and training of new agency staff, volunteers and interns/students as designated and needed.
  • Support and participate in the quality enhancement activities of the team and agency.


WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO APPLY:


Vaccination Requirements


CMHA Thames Valley Addiction & Mental Health Services requires that all staff members be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, with the rare exemption of those individuals who cannot be vaccinated due to approved exemptions (medical reasons or religious grounds as recognized in the Ontario Human Rights Code). Proof of full vaccination or approval of exemption will be required; further details will be provided to those candidates moving forward in the recruitment process.


Police Vulnerable Sector Check Requirements

We require the following qualifications:


  • Clinical work experience ideally in substance use treatment including intake services
  • Comfort and skill with public speaking and group facilitation
  • Clinical work experience with youth
  • ASIST and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training required
  • Post-secondary education in a related field, e.g. BSW, post-graduate diploma in addictions or equivalent required (primary proof of credentials will be required during the hiring process i.e. original degree/diploma or official transcript)
  • Private space in home required to provide confidential services
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively with community service providers
  • Proficiency with computers, smart phones, variety of software programs including presentation technology
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work regularly
  • Requirement to be competent and skilled with utilizing video conferencing technology (zoom, Microsoft Teams, doxy, OTN) and knowledge of shared drives/folders
  • Interdisciplinary experience in the following sectors: child welfare, medical, mental health, violence against women


We prefer the following qualifications:
