The Seasonal Writing Coach helps guide grade 12 students through the university application process, which includes helping them to conceive, write, and edit their application essays. The Seasonal Writing Coach is a team member in weekly Writing Workshops, one of our most popular services, where they engage with students, offer constructive feedback, and contribute to the workshops’ fun and productive environment.

Specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:

• Contribute positively to weekly Writing Coach meetings
• Maintain communication with families to support them through the application process
• Conduct one-on-one student writing coach appointments
• Facilitate group application writing workshops

Qualifications:

• Degree in English or related field (history, education, creative writing, etc.)
• Experience teaching small group sessions and/or familiarity with adolescents and tutoring
• Knowledge of the Canadian, UK, and US post-secondary admissions processes
• Experience in professional and academic writing

Skills:

• Ability to exercise diplomacy, tact and maintain confidentiality
• Ability to work both independently and within a collaborative team environment
• Excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal, written and digital) skills with the ability to clearly articulate ideas and feedback to students
• Demonstrated ability to facilitate workshops and small group sessions both face-to-face and online
• Forward thinking, creative, and innovative
• Ability to multi-task, organize and prioritize work, and deliver/meet goals in a timely manner
• Empathetic with strong cross-cultural awareness and an understanding and sensitivity of the challenges associated with differences in cultural backgrounds
• Proactive problem solver
• Ability to express feedback about writing with authority, but also with a gentle hand
• Ability to connect and build relationships with a wide range of adolescents

Additional Information:

The English degree must be from an accredited learning institution recognized in Canada. If you completed a program outside of Canada, proof of a Canadian equivalency is required and at your expense through a recognized credential assessment service.

This position requires the submission of a satisfactory criminal record check. A record under the Criminal Code and/or other federal offence record(s) does not automatically mean you will be ineligible for the position.

Salary Range: $28-30 per hour.
