Job Description

Minnow Environmental Inc., a Trinity Consultants Company, is a leader in Aquatic Environmental Consulting services, conducting aquatic environmental studies in freshwater and marine environments across Canada. We are a firm of aquatic scientists with multidisciplinary expertise (aquatic chemistry, geochemistry, aquatic biology, aquatic ecology, aquatic toxicology, water resource modelling, and environmental statistics) serving the Canadian natural resource sector with offices in Georgetown ON, Guelph ON, Saskatoon SK, Sparwood BC, and Victoria BC. We are currently seeking candidates for the position of water resource modeller to join our physical environmental sciences group in Guelph, Georgetown, or Victoria.

The successful candidate will provide technical services on a variety of environmental hydrologic and hydrodynamic modelling projects and assist with proposal preparation. We complete projects during all phases of mining including baseline studies, permitting, operational support and monitoring, closure planning, post-closure monitoring, and special investigations. The role will be focused on providing technical support and subject matter expertise within the physical environmental sciences group (i.e., environmental chemistry, geochemistry, hydrogeology, water resources modelling, and hydrology). The successful candidate will have some of the following expertise: 2D and 3D hydrodynamic modelling, plume delineation by modelling or empirical methods (e.g., thermal, dye tracer), hydraulic retention time studies (e.g., dye tracer), diffuser modelling, direct receiving environment modelling (e.g., mixing zone delineation), far-field modelling, hydrologic modelling (e.g., water balance, storm event, runoff), hydraulic modelling (e.g., weirs, flumes, culverts, open-channel flows), rating curve development, sediment transport and erosion modelling, hydrometric monitoring and data analysis (e.g., streamflow and water level measurements), instrumentation design, procurement, and installation.

The position may also involve conducting field work, undertaking surface water and groundwater sampling, conducting dye tracer studies, and potentially assisting in other aquatic field programs where necessary. Field studies are implemented across Canada. The position will be subject to mentoring and supervision by senior Minnow staff. The position provides the opportunity to mentor junior staff and to build Minnow’s reputation in aquatic environmental engineering through exemplary project execution, deliverable quality, participation in industry association meetings, and technical presentations/papers.

The successful candidate will have consulting and project management skills, exceptional organizational skills, an eye for detail, strong communication skills, excellent technical writing skills, and knowledge of some of the following software applications MS Word, MS Excel, CORMIX, Delft3D or other 3D flow models, GoldSim, and HEC-HMS/HEC-RAS. A graduate degree in a field of environmental engineering (M.Sc. or Ph.D.) is preferred along with 3 to 10 years of relevant work experience. The candidate must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, have a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel and work in remote locations.

Registration as a Qualified Professional (EIT or PEng) would be considered an asset.
