VP Finance
Burloak Tool & Die was established in 1979 as a Tool & Die shop, and in 2008 became a production stamping operation as well.In 2021, Burloak Tool was acquired by Summit Ridge Capital Corporation, and small, Canadian PE firm.
Since the acquisition, Burloak Tool has grown substantially thanks to organic growth and also via acquisition, having acquired Armactool in December 2022, and CadTek in March 2023.Today, Burloak is a leading designer and manufacturer of precision tooling and stamped metalformed parts for some of North America’s finest manufacturers.Our customer base includes premier marques in automotive, appliance, heavy equipment, and more.
This position is an on-site, full-time permanent position at the company’s headquarters in Burlington, ON.
The ideal candidate for this position is a CPA with manufacturing experience at the Controller level or above, or perhaps a skilled CPA with A&A experience who is interested in moving into industry, can provide financial leadership to an operational team, and wants to really understand the business and help drive performance and their own development.
The company is seeking a skilled, intelligent, and energetic CPA to lead the finance team and be a key member of the senior management team, which will lead the company further into this new era of growth.Aside from the expected VP Finance and controllership duties, the successful candidate will also have the opportunity to contribute to major, exciting projects, including the implementation of NetSuite cloud ERP, and further acquisitions (the company is currently operating on a different ERP, and an implementation partner has been engaged).
The VP Finance is the senior person at the Company responsible for Financial and Management accounting and related matters, and advises the CEO on Treasury matters.The VP Finance is a member of the senior leadership team, works closely with the President (a Partner at Summit Ridge Capital) and the VP Operations in particular, and is trusted to be a leader in financial prudence, timeliness, and accuracy in the organization.This includes, but is not limited to:
Full cycle Financial Management & Accounting including
- Preparation of the weekly CEO pacakage
- Preparation of monthly internal financial package
preparation of quarterly reports for the CEO, Board, and SFD providers
- Working Capital performance
- Supporting our major accounting firm partner in their annual Review and other work (such as purchase price allocation, post acquisition, for example)
- Work closely with department leaders on Performance vs. plan variance analysis
- Provide analysis and insights to CEO
- Preparation of forecasts and annual operating budget, with complementary controls and variance analysis, and working with the appropriate managers to develop the budget and to report on help drive understanding of the reasons for variance
Advanced Management Accounting including
- CAPEX management
- Utilization, department & product costing models
- Inventory analysis
- Continuous Improvement financial analysis
- Company Dashboards, Operating Reports, KPIs in an ISO environment, and in support of Ops
Other
- Other daily hands-on tasks as required
- Overall management of Finance department, ensuring execution of tasks and people development
- Ensure integrity of systems and processes, including fraud prevention measures
- Special projects or tasks for Summit Ridge Capital, e.g. bolt-on acquisitions work
- Info Systems, particularly the ERP
- Other senior level tasks required in the company
- Government filings, regulatory, trust funds compliance
Qualifications
- Prior experience, either direct or in an A&A role, in Manufacturing is strongly preferred
- Prior ERP experience is required
- Can combine excellence with humility
- Demonstrated managerial skills are preferred
- Good energy and sound judgement are required
- CPA designation is required.
- Prior A&A experience is a plus
- Experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus
