Job Summary
Real Chemistry is looking for a Director, Medical Writing & Editoialr to join our growing team!
conversationHEALTH, part of Real Chemistry, leverages SaaS products and consulting in the mission of transforming healthcare from what it is to what it should be. In powering millions of AI conversations, we are helping pharmaceutical and biotech companies reimagine how they engage healthcare Practitioners, patients, and consumers. conversationHEALTH was built to drive engagement, help educate, and support health stakeholders, all of which are critical to ensuring successful health outcomes. Our clients are all Top 30 Pharmaceutical and Biotech companies, and our work is targeted to supporting Enterprise customers globally.
As an integral member of conversationHEALTH, the Director is responsible for managing a team of editors and guiding content strategy aimed at healthcare professionals and consumers across different channels, including text and voice (e.g., IVR and voice in browser).
The Director ensures the editorial integrity of pieces developed and produced by conversationHealth. The primary function of this role is to assess the grammatical and content accuracy, and that they comply with AMA or other defined style. This individual contributes the fullest extent of their knowledge and understanding toward maintaining the highest levels of quality control.
This role can be remote in the Toronto area.
What You’ll Do
  • 7) Support the creation of business requirements documents
  • 1) Edit the initial round of jobs for all assigned accounts for content as well as for AMA style, client style, rules and regulations (FDA, ABPI, PAAB), grammar, spelling, consistency within the piece and among related pieces within a campaign
  • 3) Prepare submission documents and ensuring the quality of format and visual quality of layout
  • Promote a collaborative approach among team members by taking the initiative in establishing and maintaining the flow of communications.
  • Approve and ensuring accurate tracking of time spent on each job and entering in time-tracking system.
  • 8) Assist as a training resource for newer employees
  • 4) Prepare and submit content for regulatory reviews (PAAB, MLR, etc.)
  • 6) Create and maintain comprehensive content style guides for all assigned accounts
  • 2) Fact-check as necessary (must have the ability to understand scientific and medical data to ensure copy accurately represents the source from which it was taken)
  • Hire, train and manage a team of editors while supporting them on the following:
  • Deliver the highest quality, regulatory compliant, conversational AI experiences while working with, though are not limited to, conversation designers, conversation writers, and UI & UX designers.

  • 5) Perform all editorial reviews (i.e., initial full-edit through release), including copy edits, fact-checks, and check changes at designated times in the job life cycle
  • Attend internal and external kickoff meetings for all assigned accounts, aiding with the development of timelines when appropriate and liaising with client regarding all editorial matters.
  • Keep the reporting manager, VP, Medical Strategy & CUX, abreast of workload/workflow and status of assigned accounts as needed.

What You Should Have
  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences is required, graduate degree is preferred.
  • Skilled in editing digitally using software such as ProofHQ/Workfront, Adobe Acrobat Pro markup tools, and track changes in Microsoft Word.
  • Ability to ensure scientific accuracy by fact-checking all relevant copy.
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks.
  • Mastery of English grammar, syntax, spelling and writing/mechanics.
  • Proficient in AMA style and rules and content regulations for scientific and marketing communications (FDA, PAAB, ABPI).
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Experience with submission systems (ex. Veeva Vault).
  • 5+ years of experience in medical editing preferred, or relevant experience in pharmaceutical advertising, medical publishing, or medical communication.
