Job Description

Digital Services and Real Property is currently looking to staff two (2) Television Production Director positions within the Digital Media and Connected Systems Team.

Digital Media and Connected Systems Team is responsible for information services, including the parliamentary Web sites and the Parliamentary Television and Radio Network. It televises the House of Commons Chamber and committee proceedings and provides the technical staging of House of Commons and Senate committee meetings and Chamber events. It also produces in-House videos for the House Administration. 

Reporting to the Multimedia Team Lead, the Television Production Director (TV Director) is responsible for providing live-to-air or Parliamentary-produced-video direction to technicians ensuring accuracy in audio/visual event capture including programming aspects related to additional textual creation and enhancement in both official languages to live televised proceedings of the House of Commons or the Senate, including selected Committees and other pre-recorded parliamentary partner videos. The TV Director provides information related to parliamentary programming and leads in the creation of guidelines for producing broadcasts, by liaising with Table officers, Procedural Clerks and House officials and partners.

The TV Director is also responsible for leading the scheduling and assignment of TV crews for the coverage of multimedia and broadcast events in a 24/7 support model, working irregular hours, overtime and providing on-call support to meet operational requirements. The ideal candidate has television or multimedia producing experience and strong leadership and communication skills, has a good sense of judgment and initiative along with great autonomy.

Qualifications

Education:

  • A post-secondary diploma in broadcasting or an acceptable combination of training and relevant experience.

Experience:

  • Experience building and maintaining positive relationships with various partners and high-profile clients;
  • Experience providing effective and efficient Television coverage for various events as they unfold on-air;
  • Working knowledge and expert judgement in the selection of camera angles, framing, composition, and the timing of camera shot changes.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Switcher Director and or Television Production Director role or equivalent role in a professional A/V or video production field;
  • Experience with scheduling and assigning teams;
  • Ability to clearly communicate and collaborate with others both verbally and in writing; instructions, messages, ideas, and other information in your role to lead to a shared understanding;
  • Proven ability to maintain composure under the unique pressures of live broadcasting;

Assets:

  • Ability to review, develop and/or enhance operational procedures, gather requirements to design, develop and deliver training materials;
  • Ability to understand the importance of graphics, including the use of Viewer Added Values (VAVs) and to enhance live programming with appropriate graphical support.
