Technical Designers work collaboratively with other departments to design, implement, and optimize Game Design or Level Design mechanics, systems, and features while maintaining the technical integrity of the game. Part of a production, design or multidisciplinary team, the Technical Designer understands game engines, scripting languages, and the development process and has good communication skills, allowing for collaboration with all sorts of teams.


Acting as a technical reference for team members, you will assist, support, and advise colleagues whenever necessary. The Technical designer may also be called upon as one of the project’s technical experts on a specific game element.


Qualifications


We know that skills and competencies show up in different forms and can be based on different experiences. If you are excited about the role, we strongly encourage you to apply even though you may not have all the qualifications listed below.


  • A thorough understanding of the game production lifecycle, from ideation to production and through to shipping.
  • Ability to autonomously oversee the production and implementation of the technical elements of completed game features by collaborating with multiple teams.
  • Contribute to data optimization and validation by ensuring that technical standards are complied with, and memory budgets are respected.
  • Experience with game programming or and understanding of its core concepts is an asset.
  • Deliver game and level design production tasks and prototype gameplay features during design.
  • Provide feedback to technical directors and suggestions to improve tools, methods, bugs, etc.
  • Test new features and tools before they are deployed to the rest of the team.
  • 3+ years of experience in technical design, scripting, or level design or equivalent through training or other experience.
  • Take part in advanced data debugging until the end of production.
  • Experience with level editors and node-based scripting is required.
  • Act as a technical expert for tools, documents, technical support, and determination & dissemination of best practices.
