The Role:


The Team Lead, Referrals will support the operations of the Medcan Client Care Center by providing leadership to the Referral Coordinator Team. This team of medical administrative professionals is responsible for scheduling referrals for Medcan clients. The team works in partnership with the Physician and Nurse Consultant to deliver an exceptional client experience.


The primary responsibilities of the Team Lead include mentoring, coaching, developing, and motivating the team to meet client service and operational objectives. Strong people management capabilities are an essential for this role including active experience in performance coaching.


Key capabilities that this leadership role will require include:


  • Client service excellence – Leading by example in managing client service issues in a way which increases client loyalty to Medcan and coaching every team member to encourage and empower them to proactively solve client service issues.
  • Relationship building – Working to build strong relationships between the Referral Coordinator team, physicians and other Medcan teams to ensure seamless delivery of service
  • Team communication, development and coaching – Consistently communicating to and ensuring buy-in from the Referral Coordinator team in meeting and exceeding goals, developing and mentoring talent, and effective performance management and metrics tracking


The Accountabilities:


  • Maintain the preferred provider network
  • Meet the performance objectives for the team as determined by business objectives
  • Coordinate with other staff to ensure exceptional delivery of service
  • Respond to all communications including e-mails and phone calls in a timely manner
  • Team staffing and scheduling including recruitment, training and on-boarding
  • Work with Physicians, client service coordinators and Nurses in managing client care
  • Use reporting to manage performance metrics for the team and for individuals on a regular basis
  • Process referrals including arranging and coordinating appointments with specialists’ offices and diagnostic facilities
  • Actively lead the day to day operations of the referral team
  • Conduct regular 1 and 1 meetings with team


The Requirements:


  • Health experience including experience working with physicians and nurses is an asset
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Health Sciences or Business
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Intermediate level skills in MS Office and MS Outlook
  • Minimum 2 years relevant experience
  • Leadership experience including performance management and coaching
