The Data Platforms team is the hub of analytics at TELUS. Our team architects and operationalizes the underlying infrastructure used to power data solutions that drive value and deliver results from analytics. Our platforms provide the ability to put data into motion through batch and real-time processes, to bring data from on-premise systems to cloud platforms. It is the backbone of the TELUS analytic platform and allows teams to accelerate value-creation.
We are seeking a Senior Linux Server Administrator with a focus on Kafka and Nifi, who is passionate about automation and collaboration, to join our team. As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for managing and ensuring the smooth operation of our Linux servers with a particular emphasis on configuring and managing Kafka and Nifi environments. You will collaborate with other teams, understand their requirements, and work with a team of technical experts to troubleshoot issues, optimize performance, maintain the security of our systems, and streamline our operations through automation.
Here’s How

• Install, configure, and maintain Linux servers and services, including Kafka and Nifi
• Develop and maintain automation tools and scripts to streamline system administration tasks
• Maintain accurate documentation of system configurations and procedures
• Collaborate with other technical and non-technical teams to understand their requirements and design and implement new systems and infrastructure
• Monitor system performance and identify areas for improvement, implementing solutions as needed
• Participate in on-call rotation to provide support for critical issues outside of business hours
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to the Linux environment, Kafka, and Nifi
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior team members
• Implement security measures to protect our systems and data

Qualifications
What you bring

• You understand that system stability drives availability and customer trust
• Experience with automation tools such as Ansible, Chef, or Terraform
• 5+ years of experience in Linux server administration, including experience with Kafka and Nifi
• You have used YAML and/or JSON for configuration management
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
• Strong knowledge of Linux operating systems and associated services
• Familiarity with cloud environments, such as GCP
• Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
• Can explain complex system interactions, data flows,and APIs
• Experience with security protocols, such as SSL/TLS and SSH
• Are kind and want to make things better for others in collaboration with them

Great-to-haves

• Hands-on familiarity with Google Cloud Platform
• Familiarity with monitoring, alerts, and logging solutions
• Comfortable with scripting languages
• Understanding of DevOps, DataOps principles and tools
• Experience with IaC products such as Ansible or Terraform
