About The Position

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Student Lab Technician(s) to join our team in the Wildlife Analytics Lab ( WAL ). The successful candidate(s) will be responsible for preparing, processing, and analyzing cementum samples from various species (primarily ungulates). The Student Lab Technician(s) will perform a variety of tasks, including sample extraction, preparation, mounting, and staining, as well as data collection, analysis, and assisting with reporting.

Position Details

• Maintain detailed records of experiments and data analysis.
• Perform cementum preparation, mounting, and staining procedures.
• Collaborate with other team members and researchers.
• Operate laboratory equipment including microtomes, embedding units, tissue processors, microscopes, and microscope cameras.
• Collect and prepare cementum samples from animal teeth.
• Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and instruments.
• Contribute to preparation of reports and presentations on research findings.
• Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols.
• Perform data collection and analysis using specialized software and databases.

This is a casual position (average of 20-30 hrs/week; contingent on lab business volume) with a competitive wage. Required Qualifications

• Familiarity with cementum aging techniques.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours, as needed.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and specialized software for data analysis.
• Ability to follow SOPs and safety protocols.
• Previous experience in a laboratory setting is preferred.
• Knowledge of laboratory equipment and procedures.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Working towards a diploma or bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biology, chemistry, or related field.
• Exceptional time management skills needed to balance concurrent studies with lab work.- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.

Physical Requirements

• Manual dexterity to manipulate laboratory equipment and samples.
• Ability to work in a laboratory environment with exposure to chemicals and other hazards.
• Ability to lift 25 pounds.
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time.

Preferred Qualifications

Salary AUPE Class Level 1 Step 1 $16.01 per hour
