Team & Culture


Our company is seeking an experienced, well-rounded safety professional with both Construction Safety (i.e. CSO; NSCO) and current OFA Level 3 credentials for the position of Safety Advisor at various project locations in BC. The primary responsibility of a successful candidate will be to administer and coordinate the company Health and Safety program for the projects in conjunction with project management team and the site safety manager. This position requires a working knowledge of legislation, regulation, policies, and procedures, and an ability to offer guidance for safety issues and concerns.


The Safety Advisor will work with Project management, supervisors, workers, and the Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee to assist in executing the company’s OHS management system so that the company achieves a healthy and safe workplace. The Safety Advisor will monitor for compliance toward all legislation, regulation, policies and procedures and report deficiencies to management. Tasks will include the creation, collection, and maintenance of all essential OHS project documentation and statistical records.


When required the performance of OFA III duties, oversight, and coordination of all other OFA Level III’s working under their guidance will form part of the position.


This position is a camp location. Shifts may vary as required by the demands of the project.


Expectations


  • Assist Injury Management / Return-to-work, worker cases in consultation with the Injury Management Coordinator.
  • Conduct safety training, mock drills, and orientations; And:
  • Ensure the emergency response plan is in effect
  • Monitor safety performance of on-site workers to determine vulnerability
  • Educate workers about the company’s safety policy and procedures that they need to follow
  • Attend, (chair) daily/monthly safety, progress, site coordination and management meetings – as required
  • Ensure storage of hazardous materials and dangerous equipment in specially designated storage places
  • Perform and oversee the Corrective Action Log for the worksite
  • Assist management in developing and implementing safety and loss prevention programs
  • Identify and ensure removal of unsafe or hazardous materials from job site
  • Conduct detailed safety audits on a periodic basis
  • Perform incident investigations
  • Achieve project Inspection requirements
  • Implement the Site-Specific Safety Management Plan
  • Perform and ensure Site-Specific Orientation is conducted and completed
  • Inspect safety-related complaints


Qualifications


  • Must be proficient with computer programs (Microsoft) WORD, POWERPOINT and EXCEL
  • Be a strong collaborator, communicator (both spoken and written), and a team player
  • Be able to exercise strong conflict management skills
  • Be able to pass a D&A test
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years in a full-time safety role
  • Must have Construction Safety Officer (or equivalent – NCSO) and valid OFA LEVEL III Certificate
  • Be willing to work in a camp setting under a 14-days on, 7-days off rotation - subject to change
  • Must hold a valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Be physically fit
  • Must have a strong working knowledge of WorkSafe BC, and other provincial regulations related to the project works
  • It would be a benefit to have experience with oil & gas safety and /or mine safety
