PeopleReady ofNew Westminster, BC is now hiring Shunt Drivers!A Shunt Driver is responsible for safely operating shunt trucks or similar vehicles to move trailers, containers, or other equipment within a defined area, such as a warehouse, distribution center, or industrial facility. Their role involves ensuring the efficient movement of goods and equipment while adhering to safety guidelines and operational protocols.

- Identify and address minor operational or mechanical issues with the shunt truck. Report major issues to the maintenance team and assist in troubleshooting efforts.
- Collaborate with other drivers, warehouse staff, and logistics teams to ensure smooth operations and achieve organizational objectives.
- Efficiently load and unload trailers or containers, ensuring proper securing of goods to prevent damage during transit.
- Follow eco-friendly practices, such as minimizing idling time and adhering to energy-saving guidelines, to contribute to sustainability efforts.
- Adapt to changing work environments, schedules, and tasks, particularly during peak operational periods.
- Optimize the movement of trailers, containers, and equipment to minimize downtime and ensure timely delivery and pickup of goods.
- Safely operate shunt trucks to move trailers, containers, or equipment within the designated area.
- Keep accurate records of vehicle operations, including mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance activities. Complete required paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
- Adhere to all traffic rules, safety procedures, and company policies to maintain a safe working environment. Perform pre- and post-operation inspections of vehicles to identify and report any maintenance or safety issues.
- Maintain clear and effective communication with supervisors, fellow drivers, and warehouse personnel to coordinate equipment movement and prioritize tasks.
- Able to work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve operational objectives.
- Possess a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) or equivalent certification required for operating shunt trucks or similar vehicles.
- Ability to accurately complete paperwork, conduct vehicle inspections, and ensure proper load securement.
- Capable of performing physical tasks such as climbing in and out of vehicles, bending, lifting, and operating vehicle controls.
- Willingness to work in varying weather conditions and adapt to changing work environments and schedules.
- Strong commitment to following safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Proven experience in safely operating shunt trucks, tractor-trailers, or similar heavy equipment in various environments.
- Basic understanding of vehicle mechanics to identify minor issues and perform simple troubleshooting.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for coordinating with team members and reporting any issues.
- Consistent attendance and punctuality to meet operational demands and commitments.
