- In conjunction with Shipping personnel, to set up shipments when shipping requests are received
- Manage the shipping department staff
- Track and manage shipping costs and expenses, and work to minimize shipping costs wherever possible
- Creating bill of ladings and custom documents as required
- Manage and maintain relationships with shipping carriers
- Manage outbound logistics
- Hire, train, and manage shipping staff, and ensure that all employees are following company policies and procedure
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective shipping operations
- Ensure that all products are properly packaged, labelled, and shipped according to company standards and regulations
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Knowledge of shipping regulations, carriers, and freight forwarding
- Coordinate with other departments such as inventory, sales, customer service, and production to ensure timely and accurate shipping of products
- Proficiency with shipping software and technology, such as UPS WorldShip and FedEx Ship Manager
- Follow company policies on Health, Safety& Environment and PPE requirements
- Oversee the shipping of products and goods to customers and suppliers
- Maintain green scorecards with all our customers
- Ensuring ASN's are created, submitted and accepted by our customers based on their timeline and expectations, and all documentation is maintained on a timely manner
- Plan, organize, and manage the daily operations of the shipping department
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Contribute to the continuous improvement initiatives on all aspects of the job and encourage all subordinates to do the same
- To train, develop, mentor, direct and discipline subordinates to ensure a productive, efficient and competent workforce to meet scheduled requirements in a safe environment
- Other duties and responsibilities as required
- Ensuring all Shipping personnel are following customers specific requirements related to shipments
- Responsible to maintain good housekeeping in work area and department
- Ability to lift heavy packages and operate machinery such as forklifts and pallet jacks (if required by the job)
- Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills
- Good working knowledge of ERP or similar systems
- Licensed forklift driver
- Excellent English Communication Skills (oral and written)
- College diploma and/or combination of Grade 12 with minimum of 5 years of experience as a manager or hands-on Supervisory experience in a related field
- Advanced knowledge of computer skills
- Strong leadership and problem-solving skills an asset
