Overview
BCLC’s two offices are located on the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Peoples in Vancouver and the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc territory, situated within the Secwépemc Nation in Kamloops. Joining the Business Technology team at BCLC means you’ll be working with cutting-edge technology to help build a world-class entertainment company. This is an engaged, innovative, capable group of talented individuals working in digital enablement, product delivery services, technology platform enablement, enterprise services, integrity and operations. This enables us to execute the purchase and validation of lottery tickets at over 3500 lottery retailers, manage a complex network of 12,000 slot machines and electronic table games across the province and provide the backbone for BCLC’s eGaming platform, and much more.
We have offices in Kamloops and Vancouver and can also support 100% remote (from within British Columbia) for this position.
Job Summary
The Senior Systems Administrator is accountable for the development, integration, operations and maintenance of all server technologies within the IT infrastructure. The Senior Systems Administrator participates in the design phase and provides input into the future direction of server technologies and management, analyzes problems and drives solutions during testing and post-implementation and provides strong troubleshooting and implementation skills. This role provides systems support in the areas of hardware and operating systems, patching, backup and recovery, surveillance, applications, performance, scalability, security, reliability, and fault tolerance.
The Senior Systems Administrator acts as a consultative partner by providing subject matter expertise, analysis and advice to internal and external stakeholders, service providers and regulatory bodies, enabling BCLC to efficiently deliver highly available on-line products and services to our players.
Key Accountabilities
  • Analyzes and resolves system issues, working with vendors where required to effect problem resolution in a timely manner, escalating where necessary.
  • Maintains a solid understanding of enterprise class network, server and storage infrastructure.
  • Evolves and maintains a mission critical private cloud environment
  • Acts as a technical specialist across a wide range of competencies, completes ongoing training and imparts knowledge to others.
  • Leads projects and works independently in a team environment, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ensures infrastructure solutions meet the business strategic and operational objectives and are compliant with the BCLC technical architecture plan.
  • Proactively mitigates risk and demonstrates innovative thinking
  • Proactively develops, maintains and manages strong working relationships with a consistent group of internal contacts such as customers, peers, supervisors and managers.
  • Analyzes system performance trends, recognizes opportunities and proactively implements upgrades and enhancements.
  • Leads the installation and support of infrastructure within remote facilities across BC and within our primary and backup Data Centers.
Minimum Required Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • Relevant certifications for Redhat Linux
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Post-secondary education in a related discipline such as information technology, supplemented by industry recognized professional courses;
  • ITIL Foundations and a strong understanding of the ITIL framework and principles is considered an asset;
  • 3- 5 years recent related experience;
Technical Requirements
  • Proven technical leader with solid system administration skills
  • Demonstrated experience in business and process analysis and improvement
  • Excellent customer service, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge and experience in an HPE server environment
  • Demonstrated experience with some of the following:
  • Experience in automation platforms – Ansible, and scripting – Bash, Perl, Powershell
  • Experience working in an Agile Environment.
  • Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with vendors and contractors
  • Administration of Windows Server, and/or Redhat Linux operating systems
  • Excellent time management, organizational and multi-tasking skills to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups or activities.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical thinking/innovation
  • Knowledge and experience working in an AWS and Azure cloud environment.
  • Experience working with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP
Working Conditions
  • Must be able to work flexible hours and provide after-hours support as needed.
