Senior Site Reliability Engineer

That’s why Lyft leaned in to micro-mobility, first joining hands with Montreal-based 8D Technologies in 2018 (from Motivate) and later with Longueuil-based PBSC in 2022, taking the place of the worldwide leader in bike-sharing. We want to provide solutions that people love and cities need.

Our offices in the Greater Montreal developed the first automated bike-share system in America (Bixi), a system that has since been deployed in more than 51 cities in 15 countries: Barcelona, Buenos Aires, Chicago, Dubai, London, Mexico, Monaco, Montreal, New-York, San-Francisco, Toronto to name a few. These are also some of the biggest bike-share systems in the world, and the list keeps growing!

Lyft’s team in Montreal is growing, and we are looking for a solid, experienced site reliability engineer to join our Infrastructure team to help maintain our current systems, work on our next-generation platform and bring it to multiple different markets and business models.

Technical interviews and interactions with the other offices in the company will be mainly in English; however, the working environment in Montreal is bilingual.

Responsibilities:

• Build infrastructure and drive projects that break things with the aim to improve the robustness of production systems
• Step back to observe patterns and develop innovative tools and automation to minimize toil. Use those learnings to drive the best operational practices.
• Help define infrastructure roadmap and architecture based on technology and business needs.
• Share on-call responsibilities with other teammates and own the improvement of the team’s on-call practices
• Unblock, support, and effectively communicate across teams to achieve results
• Use the core Site Reliability Engineering principles of change management, monitoring, emergency response, capacity planning, and production readiness reviews to run the platform.
• Build holistic visibility into SLIs, SLOs, SLAs, dependency graphs, past performance of software, network, and system to ensure that we can continue to scale without increasing operational burden or toil.
• Assist in cost engineering efforts to ensure efficient use of cloud resources.
• Share knowledge by giving brown bags, tech talks, and evangelizing appropriate tech and engineering best practices.
• Partner with the broader Lyft organization to build a culture of rigorously learning from incidents.

Experience:

• Strong communication and documentation skills
• Experience designing, implementing and operating large-scale customer-facing SaaS infrastructure
• Strong Cross team collaboration
• Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills
• Experience with high level programming languages (Python, Go, Java, etc.) and declarative languages (eg. Terraform).
• Experience working with public cloud platforms (eg. AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure, etc.) and container orchestrators (eg. Kubernetes)

Starting in September 2023, this role will be in-office on a hybrid schedule — Team Members will be expected to work in the office 3 days per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Additionally, hybrid roles have the flexibility to work from anywhere for up to 4 weeks per year.
