SNC-Lavalin (Candu Energy Inc) is collaborating with its partners Aecon and GE-Hitachi to collectively provide a stand-alone BWRX-300 SMR nuclear power plant, including the design, engineering, licensing support, procurement, construction, installation, testing, commissioning, completion and turnover of the Facility, including related training, infrastructure and ancillary buildings, all in accordance with the terms of this Project Agreement so as to provide Owner (OPG) with a fully functional Facility.
“This is an exciting opportunity to join an expanding workforce which provides radiation protection services to nuclear facilities throughout the world. We are looking for a senior professional with nuclear operational health physics experience to join our team of health physicists and surveyors providing radiation protection support on a range of technical specialist services to the nuclear industry. How will you contribute to the team?
  • Develop and recommend radiation safety controls for radiological work such as irradiated component removal from the reactor core and radioactive waste processing
  • For worker radiation exposure and dose budgeting purposes develop individual and collective radiation dose projections
  • Develop and deliver radiation protection training
  • Perform radiation shielding calculations and develop basic computer models to assess hazard profiles
  • Review design descriptions, details and recommend worker dose reduction strategies
  • ALARA planning to support CANDU large scale core component removal and replacement
  • Review RP programs from nuclear plants and design and implement appropriate methods to interface with clients on radiation protection
  • Prepare and approve radioactive work plans to support station operations, refurbishment, and decommissioning bids and activities.
What will you contribute to the team?
  • Ability to effectively address worker radiation safety concerns by explaining program application requirements and safety principles
  • Experience in dealing with a large organization to address broad scope radiation safety needs
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience as an operational health physicist working in CANDU power plants or equivalent nuclear industry.
  • Undergraduate degree in Health Physics or equivalent qualifications.
  • Experience in applying high radiation safety standards expected in the nuclear power plants.
  • Effective communication of the radiation safety compliance requirements to the organization.
