Job Description
Reporting to the Director of Medical Physics, the Senior Medical Physicist supplies scientific expertise to the Centre through the application of physics to medicine. This position provides leadership in specification, acceptance testing, commissioning and calibration of equipment used in the Radiotherapy department and the implementation of QA programs. In addition, the Senior Medical Physicist plans and implements new treatment techniques and/or technologies and advises Radiation Oncologists and Dosimetrists as required. Additional responsibilities include leadership of a major component of the medical physics program, conducting ongoing research, providing education for residents, students and visitors, and mentoring Medical Physicists.


  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to relate to staff from multiple disciplines
  • PhD in medical physics or a related field
  • Evidence of innovation in medical physics such as peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations
  • Demonstrated teaching skills
  • Excellent verbal/written communication ability
  • Minimum of seven years experience as a Medical Physicist
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize workload
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Fellowship in the Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine (FCCPM) is an asset

Unit Summary


The Medical Physics Department provides scientific and technical support for the Radiation Treatment Program. This includes treatment and imaging equipment maintenance, quality assurance, design and fabrication of specialized devices for therapy, dose measurement and calculation, radiation safety, and the development and implementation of new and improved radiation treatment techniques. The department participates in formal education programs at the undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate levels, and conducts research on novel methods of cancer diagnosis and therapy.


Schedule Work Hours


37.5 hours per week – days (hours of work may vary. Must be available for extended hours, overtime and evenings/weekends, as may be required.
