General Purpose Of This Position


The Senior Discipline Electrical Engineer provides safe, "Best for Project" solutions for complex projects, while ensuring regulatory compliance for all engineering deliverables. The Senior Engineer is responsible for collaborating with other disciplines and team members, completion and storage of all necessary calculations, review and knowledge of all pertinent codes and standards, review of engineering deliverables to ensure adherence to their requirements, planning and monitoring of quality assurance requirements, checks and stamps the work of EIT's, peer review, maintenance, and continuous improvement of their technical skills.


Essential Duties And Responsibilities


Health and Safety


  • Work in compliance with all Health and Safety rules and regulations for Cementation.
  • Be a champion for safety, advocating safe behaviour while incorporating safety into the designs produced by the group.
  • Ensure all applicable safety codes and regulations are met by appropriate design and use of technology.
  • Be aware of any health and safety hazards or infractions and report same to Health and Safety Department.


Key Accountabilities


  • During construction, assess and provide technical recommendations in response to field enquiries.
  • Produce and review project design criteria, specifications, datasheets, RFP documents, complete technical bid reviews, and provide vendor recommendations.
  • Be the Engineer of Record (EoR) for major studies and projects and collaborate with designers to ensure that the engineering requirements will be adequately conveyed and delivered.
  • Select equipment, conduct electrical coordination, and arc flash studies, and develop protective relay settings.
  • This position has the requirement for occasional travel to our project sites and offices. Travel period may range from one day to several weeks and may include overseas assignments.
  • Actively participate in the development of Engineers in Training, providing technical direction and mentorship.
  • Complete reviews and approve vendor specification and drawings, and participant in shop or on-site QA reviews and acceptance tests.
  • Conduct peer review of engineering designs and engineering calculations as required.
  • Provide functional description documents, guide the design of P&IDs, and determine the network architecture.
  • Collaborate with Project Services and Operations to produce "Best for Project" designs that are safe, reflect the Client's operability requirements first, and are constructible.
  • Lead the design of MV & LV power distribution, automation, and communication systems in a project team environment, with a focus on prefeasibility studies, conceptual design, and detailed design for mines.
  • This description lists the core responsibilities and duties of the position. Additional duties deemed to be within the incumbent's capabilities, on an as required basis, may be assigned by management.
  • Provide level of effort and estimate for proposal submissions. As required, participate in marketing, or bid meetings, to answer questions related to project scope, or Cementation's technical capabilities.
  • As requested, attend technical conferences, representing Cementations capabilities, and attending seminars that will further Cementation's knowledge.
  • Participate in design, operability, constructability, and risk reviews.


Skills, Knowledge, And Abilities
  • Good knowledge of communication, wireless, and network backbone
  • MS Office Suite, MS Project.

  • AutoCAD Electrical or other design software.
  • Leadership of discipline specific design teams.
  • Good knowledge of PLC and instrument, and interfacing with DCS and SCADA.

  • Good working knowledge and skills in the following software:
  • Practical experience in the industrial / mining sectors (i.e., underground mine power centres, hoisting control and drives, and tele-remote mining)
  • Good knowledge of applying engineering application software like ETAP to perform electrical studies.
  • Collaborative team player.
  • ETAP
  • Knowledge of Functional safety of safety-related control systems.


Qualifications


  • Previous relevant work experience in mining or heavy construction.
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering Degree or equivalent, accredited by Professional Engineers of Ontario, or other Canadian professional engineering body.
  • Experience in discipline specific design of medium to large underground and / or heavy industrial infrastructure.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer with Professional Engineers of Ontario, or other Canadian professional engineering body.
  • Minimum 10 to 15 years of relevant experience.


Travel Requirements


  • This position has the requirement for occasional travel to our project sites and offices.
  • Travel period may range from one day to several weeks.


Supervisory/Management Responsibilities


  • As needed, serve as a backup to the Lead Engineer
