Our client is an innovative and fast growing non-profit start up that is successfully breaking through barriers to digital inclusion for Nova Scotians. Our client’s mandate is exciting and impactful creating new options for digitally excluded Nova Scotians.
They are seeking a Communications Lead to work 2- 3 days per week for an approximate 6 month contract in a remote work arrangement. Terms may be flexible based on skills and experience of the candidate.
The Communications Lead is responsible to develop and implement the strategic Communication framework in support of the overall business plan and direction of the organization. Reporting to the Executive Director, this hands-on role will be both strategic and tactical while responsible for communications culture and processes, government relations, internal communications, external communications, and programming communications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build media relationships to grow media list; track appearances and progress.
- Lead and execute the production of organizational reports; collaborate with graphic designers, copywriters, and other partners and key contributors
- Review and write organizational materials for external audiences, partners, and participants
- Foster and strengthen relationships with local and provincial governments
- Manage and maintain the main website, developing content, accessibility and usability
- Develop and maintain website usage reports
- Develop workflow process for all content development, management, proof and editing
- Create media releases and other communications materials
- Create, distribute and track content on social media
- Create and implement the organizational Communications framework and strategy
Qualifications and Skills:
- Experience in writing copy for how-to manuals and/or brochures
- 10+ years progressive experience in Communications / Public Relations
- Strong knowledge of communication trends and strategies
- Experience in a nonprofit organization preferred
- Solid experience with social media
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations or relevant field
- Excellent computer skills; knowledge of Google workspace technology would be an asset
- Experience in a startup organization is considered an asset
- Demonstrated experience in government relations within Atlantic Canada
- Superlative communication skills in all forms (written, verbal and presentation)
