Job Description

As a Risk Consultant, Fire Protection with our Aviva Business division you will support the ARMS team and associated property and casualty underwriting community by conducting surveys and completing associated risk engineering reports.
This role primarily includes field risk consulting with some account management responsibilities.
This role is home-based and flexible, with regular travel to client premises within the Western region and on occasions nationally.
What You’ll Do
  • Generate technical property risk engineering reports and other related documents in conjunction with the field surveys.
  • Support, assist and collaborate with management, colleagues and partners in the development, support and enhancement of risk and insurance services.
  • Provide technical guidance to underwriting and assist in solving/resolving identified property risk engineering deficiencies.
  • Complete a wide range of property, casualty, product liability, contractor, and builder’s risk field surveys and associated risk management/underwriting reports.
  • Maintain risk engineering services to ARMS standards (high quality, on-time and cost effective).
  • On occasion, manage account portfolios and provide account and field level risk consulting to Aviva’s loss prevention and underwriting requirements.
What You’ll Bring
  • Ability to read architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical plans.
  • Good understanding of canadian building/fire codes, NFPA standards and ability to read and apply industry recognized standards (Factory Mutual or GE Gaps Guidelines).
  • College diploma or degree in related technical discipline.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and passport (or ability to obtain as some international travel maybe required).
  • Travel within Western region (75%) and nationally (up to 25%), as required.
  • Ability to navigate various IT systems within Aviva including Loss Control 360 and Claims Center.
  • Ability to develop and maintain internal/external relationships, communicate successfully and to be able to lead and influence effectively.
  • Fully effective interpersonal, writing and other communication skills required to develop and maintain relationships with peers, customers and industry contacts.
  • Good understanding of property and product liability risks in manufacturing, warehousing and wholesale operations.
  • Experience with contractors and builder’s risk.
  • Account management experience.
  • 10+ years experience conducting property and casualty surveys of SME and Middlemarket risks.
  • Ability to analyze business interruption and extra expense worksheets.
  • Understanding of Loss Scenario Engineering (MFL/PML/NLE).
  • Working towards (or obtained) an advanced technical degree or certification of a professional risk management designation (CET, NICET, CFPS or CRM, CIP).
  • Ability to read and assess sprinkler, fire pump and suppression system plans and hydraulic reviews.
  • Ability to effectively work with MS Office, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
