Powertech’s Compliance Services team will support your facilities’ grid compliance needs with testing, modeling, and consulting services in accordance with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC), and other regional reliability standards.


The Compliance Services team provides field testing, modeling, and consulting services to support grid compliance. With more than 25 years of experience, our engineers have tested over 600 energy facilities (including thermal, hydraulic, nuclear, solar, wind, BESS, etc.) as well as FACTS devices (synchronous condenser, HVDC, etc.) in US, Canada, Australia, and many Asian and Mideast countries.


Under the Power System Studies Division, the Generation, Protection and Control Engineer will be involved in field testing and modeling study services for energy facilities to meet grid compliance requirements. The successful applicant will engage and work with clients to develop detailed test plans, perform on-site testing, and develop models based on comparison of computer simulation results with field measurement data. Duties include but will not be limited to the following


  • Remote work will be considered if the above qualifications are met.
  • Create and review technical proposals, cost estimates, and work schedules
  • Perform simulation study and prepare detailed engineering reports
  • Travel to industrial sites in multiple countries and carry out onsite generator model validation testing
  • Review power plant technical information to prepare unit specific model validation test plans
  • Perform peer review on technical reports


Qualifications


  • The successful applicant preferably will have a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering specialized in power system. A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with direct work experience will be considered.
  • Registered or eligible for immediate registration as a Professional Engineer with the Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC) or other jurisdictions.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experiences in power plant site commissioning and testing including regular field work, following procedures, data collection using digital DAQ systems, control equipment function and communication troubleshooting, safety training and awareness, etc.
  • Must be able to travel to the USA with no restrictions and eligible to work in US for site testing
  • At least 4 years of working experience in protection and control, power system analysis, or related post graduate research.
  • Must hold a valid class 5 BC driver’s license or equivalent
  • Strong knowledge and demonstrated experiences in power plant and generator protection and control theory and practice on relay instruments (SEL, Beckwith, GE Multilin, etc.).


Preference with be given to candidates with the following qualifications:


  • Demonstrated experience with one or more power system study software: DSATools, PSS/E, PSLF, PSCAD, etc.
  • Field working experience on energy facility commissioning and control design
  • Uncompromising dedication to safety and quality
  • Demonstrates initiative and the aptitude to solve complex technical problems and varying challenges with minimal direction
  • Experience operating generator AVR systems, exciters, governors, and/or protection and control systems
  • Knowledge and/or experience on energy facility or other power system device dynamic model development
  • Previous experience working on P&C coordination studies
  • Proficient with one or more programming languages (Python, FORTRAN, Visual Basic, Labview, etc.)
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft products including Word and Excel
  • Ability to optimally adapt to a constrained schedule and perform under pressure
  • Quality Management, Assurance and Control skills are desirable.
  • Project management skills with the ability to organize and lead projects of a multidisciplinary nature.
