Job Description
The Registered Nurse (RN) plays a crucial role on our mission driven team. As a member of the health care team the RNs are trained to work both within the cardiac catheterization laboratories and the recovery & reception area. This unique environment provides staff with the opportunity to participate in and help to advance care of our patients throughout the full continuum of their time within the HIU. Staff are provided with the opportunity for additional specialized training within the catheterization laboratories. If you are an individual who thrives in a fast paced and changing environment then the HIU may be the right fit for you.
  • Current BCLS certification, ACLS certification
  • Ability to wear lead for extended periods of time
  • Recent 2 years experience (within the last 2 years) with interventional cardiology procedures
  • Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the assessment and management of an acute cardiac population and critically ill adults
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the nursing care planning process and evidence of the ability to utilize problem-solving and critical thinking techniques effectively in a critical care setting.
  • Recent 2 years experience (within the last 2 years) in acute cardiac care nursing and critical care nursing
  • Recent 2 years experience (within the last 2 years) in and successful completion of ECG interpretation/treatment, hemodynamic monitoring (arterial lines and pulmonary artery catheters), ventilation, IV access, venipuncture, defibrillation, pacemakers
  • Ability to perform well in critical high stress situations
As a condition of employment, you are required to submit proof of full COVID-19 vaccination to Employee Health Services.

Unit Summary
Expand your skills as a critical care Registered Nurse by joining our dynamic team in the Heart Investigation Unit (HIU). The HIU at Hamilton Health Sciences is the largest centre in Ontario, consisting of four state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization laboratories and a 32-bed recovery & reception area. In the past year, over 10,500 procedures have been performed in the HIU which include cardiac catheterizations, angioplasties, valvuloplasties and percutaneous aortic valve implantations.
