  • Post-secondary education in environmental science, agriculture, geology, biology, forestry, or engineering, professional designation or eligibility for professional designation is highly desired as per professional sign off requirements.
  • Knowledge of AER and AEP regulatory requirements and systems or wiliness to learn (i.e., DRAS, DDS, AER OneStop, ESAR, Spin Land Titles, APRS aerial photo, ETS, GLIMPS, etc.) is highly desired. Previous experience with ABADATA or similar GIS tools is required.
  • Current safety tickets are considered an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license required for travel to job sites/clients.
  • Experience with contaminated site assessments and remediation is considered an asset, but not required.
  • Practical, hands-on experience with reclamation and reclamation certification is required.
  • Based in Lloydminster, Edmonton, Grande Prairie, or Calgary, AB, with flexible work options available.

As a Reclamation Specialist based in one of our Alberta offices, you will play an important role on our team primarily working on reclamation projects across the province of Alberta, including landscape, soil and vegetation restoration and assessment programs, revegetation and weed control prescriptions, and regulatory closure.


You’ll work closely with senior team members, completing site restoration and detailed site assessments at native prairie, peatland, forested and cultivated sites, vegetation and weed assessments, client, contractor, and regulatory liaison for the purposes of obtaining reclamation certificates, as well as preparing reclamation certificate application packages.


You’ll conduct client-facing work on projects for mostly upstream and midstream oil and gas clients, federal and municipal government, and commercial and industrial clients, along with various contractors throughout AB. You will apply your regulatory knowledge to help our clients resolve their complex problems in a creative way, such as difficult landowner situations, complicated reclamation projects, or difficult site access.

Specifically, your responsibilities will include:


  • Assisting in the preparation of a variety of environmental summary reports, and working with other disciplines (e.g., hydrogeology, air quality, permitting, and ecology) as needed.
  • Participating in all facets of regulatory wellsite closure process, including Phase I and Phase II ESAs, reclamation, remediation, and detailed site assessments. This will include project coordination, field assessments, contractor, landowner and regulatory liaison and regulatory submissions.

Preferred Qualifications And Requirements


  • Minimum 3 years of experience in reclamation or soil science.
  • A team player with strong interpersonal skills who will engage with SLR’s “One Team” culture and great communication skills.
  • Thorough understanding of Reclamation Criteria and regulatory procedures (i.e., Peatland, Forested, Cultivated and Native Prairie Reclamation criteria), understanding of drainage, soil and vegetation restoration techniques and knowledge of various equipment used for restoration and its limitations is required; experience in preparation of criteria justifications is considered an asset.
  • Enjoy working outdoors and willing to travel for work
  • Work well independently including ability to work alone in remote locations and adapt to conditions/resources through problem solving and following the guidance of more experienced personnel.
  • Valid driver’s license for travel to job sites/clients.
  • Degree or Technical Diploma in environmental science, agriculture, engineering, or related studies.
  • Knowledge of and practical application experience of health & safety requirements unique to oil and gas industry.
  • Professional status or eligibility for professional status with a professional organization is required as per professional sign off requirements.
