Job Description
AGAT Laboratories is a full-service laboratory with locations across Canada. Summary:


AGAT Laboratories is currently hiring for a Geomechanics Specialist. This is a senior position in our geomechanic laboratory in Calgary. This position is given direction from the Operations Manager. The successful candidate will be one that has the ability to work independently on laboratory activities and is responsible for maintaining the majority of the instruments, monitoring quality control and managing projects in the geomechanic laboratory, analyzing geomechanical data and communicating with clients.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Meet quality assurance and turn around specifications.
  • Calibrate, operate, maintain, and trouble shoot high level geomechanic experiments.
  • Follow all quality control and standard operation procedures.
  • Assist management in improving efficiencies throughout the operations.
  • Design geomechanical testing programs with clients.
  • Implement and manage preventative maintenance and analyst training program. For laboratory instruments.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Compile, verify and validate accurate data records.
  • Research new methodologies and participate in R&D projects.
  • Ensure adherence to all AGAT health and safety policies, procedures, guidelines and requirements.
  • Provide technical and instrumental support to operations.
  • Review and report results.
  • Develop and review SOP’s.


Qualifications:


  • Knowledge of full laboratory processes.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Basic programming in Python, Matlab or similar language is considered an asset.
  • Petrophysical knowledge is considered an asset.
  • Strong understanding of geomechanical theory and geomechanical earth models.
  • 1-5+ years’ experience, preferably in a geomechanics laboratory setting.
  • Science degree required in either Geology, Engineering, Geophysics or related field.
  • Able to operate and maintain analytical instruments.
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills conveyed in a pleasant and professional manner when interacting with employees, management, and customers.
  • Intermediate computer skills.


Work Environment:


This position requires a person to stand, sit and lift throughout the shift in a laboratory environment. Extended periods of sitting at a computer are required. Manual dexterity is required to perform repetitive tasks. PPE is required where applicable.
