Overall Responsibilities
The Quality Control Technologist must have a sound understanding of the use/maintenance of various laboratory instruments (HPLC, ICP, GC and minor laboratory instrumentation), testing methodologies, fundamental laboratory skills (proper weighing techniques, pipetting techniques, extraction techniques) and capability of interpretating data and reporting results.
The Quality Control Technologist must uphold a three-year diploma or Bachelor of Science degree in the laboratory science field at minimum.
Reporting to the Quality Control Supervisor of the Chemistry laboratory, the Quality Control Technologist will assist the Senior Technologists in ensuring all Jamieson Wellness products have met all chemical and physical criteria prior to use, sale or supply by following all procedures and guidelines as prescribed by the Quality Control Department.
Specific Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Interpretation of data, reporting of valid/accurate results and peer-review of fellow Technologists results.
- Will comply with Good Manufacturing Practices in all GMP sensitive areas of Jamieson Laboratories Ltd. Facilities.
- Follow instructions and procedures as outlined by the Senior Technologists or Quality Control Supervisor.
- Assist in the training of new Quality Control Technicians/Technologists.
- Maintain overall sanitation of the QC Laboratories and their contents
- Assist in the investigation of Out of Specification, Borderline or Out of Trend results.
- Perform other related duties and projects as assigned (i.e. Validation studies, SOP/STP creation/revisions, optimization of methodologies/systems).
- Other duties and project as assigned.
- Working in compliance with the company’s Health & Safety Policies/SOPs including but not limited to the Safety Responsibilities Procedure.
- Responsible for operating and maintaining instrumentation within the laboratory (HPLC, ICP, GC and minor laboratory instrumentation).
- Review the completion of Quality Control Technician’s data.
- Carry out calibrations on laboratory equipment as needed
- Perform daily processing of all samples, which includes physical testing, assays and chemical analysis using the pharmacopoeia (USP, EP, BP) or a recognized compendial methodologies (i.e. AOAC, Health Canada).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Requirements
- Three-year diploma or degree in Chemistry, Biology or a related science from an accredited College and/or University.
- Good interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate clearly.
- Work independently and with moderate supervision.
- Conversant in USP, FCC, EP, BP and recognized compendial methodologies is an asset.
- One (1) year experience in similar role is an asset.
- Able to work shift work, and to work overtime to complete projects in a timely fashion as may be required.
- Proficiency with application software (LIMS), Knowledge of Microsoft Office and efficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Conversant in GMP/GLP requirements is an asset.
