What we’re looking for?


We are looking for a passionate Product Category Manager to become part of this great family, that drive and leads strategies that contribute to the growth of the appliance category with the goal of becoming a market leader while keep providing essential products and services that enhance the lives of Canadian families.


The Product Category Manager will be a strategic and hands-on role. With the opportunity to collaborate and influence the majority of our local areas/teams, our factories and our corporate office team. To succeed in this role, the person should have critical and strategic thinking, great project management and accountability, be data-driven to identify business opportunities and provide solutions, and with the ability to influence all levels of the organization.


Product Category Manager work is focused on maximizing sales/profitability for a category of consumer products by aligning manufacturer pricing, selection, and promotions for the category with the retailer’s role/profit margin for the category, also building a thorough knowledge of the categories, the market and the sites’ requirements, and develop the procurement strategy needed to maintain the category portfolio’s financial performance including:


  • Exercise general governance of the portfolio and manage the supplier relationship with your suppliers’ key account managers with a view to developing innovative projects that will make a difference in the longer term
  • Play an active role in the department’s transformation to strategic procurement excellence
  • Researching the role that the category plays in, sales volume, and profitability for the retailer (e.g., low price leader for certain items, higher price for others, highest quality or best selection for certain categories, etc.)
  • Analyzing and sharing customers as input to joint category plans and reviews (e.g., category demand projections, purchasing behaviours, price/discount sensitivity, etc.)
  • Monitoring and reviewing manufacturer and retailer performance against category targets
  • Identify and understand the industry, category, shopper and consumer trends to proactively seek and recommend shopper-led solutions
  • Uncover business insights and sales opportunities that will accelerate retail growth, recommending solutions to grow the category and our business.
  • Monitor industry trends, evaluate the competition, and ensure a current and competitive product offering.
  • Offering discounts and promotions to support the retailer’s role for the category (e.g., aligning manufacturer discounts with retailer low price items, ensuring adequate product supply during promotions, manufacturer coupons for bundling low and high cost items, etc.) in exchange for favorable product stocking and placement vs. competitors


Responsibilities typically include:

  • May influence others within the job area through explanation of facts, policies and practices.
  • Problems faced are difficult but typically not complex.
  • Works independently with general supervision.


The ideal candidate will complement and bring value to the team with:


  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Strong negotiation and analytical skills.
  • Strong PowerPoint, Excel, PowerBi, SAP is an asset along with the ability to perform detailed financial cost analyses and forecasting.
  • Ability to coordinate cross-functional teams.


In addition to a true passion for improving and growing categories, you will need:


  • Knowledge of Agile Methodology is an asset.
  • 4+ years of background between product management experience, sales, category specialist, and marketing.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency
  • Finance proficiency.
  • Highly flexible and adaptable with a strong work ethic.
  • Project management skills and ability to effectively manage multiple priorities
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Demonstrates a strong customer service orientation and is self-motivated
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Out of the box thinking to create business solutions.
