Job Description
Overview


Reporting to the Quality Manager, the primary purpose of the Process Engineer is to develop, measure, and improve operation and performance standards for operations throughout the facility focusing on safety, quality, consistent operating methods, and efficiency. As a member of the RS team, this position will support an organizational culture that promotes adherence to the RS core values of safety, respect, resilience, and teamwork.


Responsibilities


  • Maintain documentation such as work instructions, data recording forms, engineering change management process, etc.
  • Maintain the ERP system data related to process flows, part numbers, and assemblies
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing and support staff on process and quality issues
  • Train Production Teammates on product introductions and process improvements
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Implement lean manufacturing principles where appropriate, in support of the Business Maturity Assessment, to drive improvements in process safety, quality, and costs
  • Improving the efficiency of the filament winding and pultrusion processes, resin blending process, and order preparation assembly processes
  • Comply with all Company Safety rules, Provincial/State and Federal Rules and Regulations
  • Occasional communication directly with suppliers and contractors
  • Assist in the research, trial/development, selection of new processes & equipment to improve the production process
  • Mentor junior engineers and co-op interns
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Maintain timely and effective communication with supervisors and peers through avenues such as e-mail, monthly reports, corrective action meetings, process engineering data reports, Gemba walks, etc
  • Work closely with other engineers and technical specialists to increase functional knowledge. Coach and mentor other team members to develop strong technical expertise in all areas
  • Utilize statistical methods for process improvements and root cause analysis
  • Support efforts in the areas of certifications, regulatory compliance, and other company certifications as they relate to the product and supplier development, and process engineering functions
  • Develop process flow and methods for all processes
  • Perform shop floor duties to maximize manufacturing effectiveness. Provide technical advice on the disposition of defects, repair plans, corrective actions


Training / Qualifications


  • Hold a technical degree or diploma specializing in mechanical, electrical, or chemical engineering or equivalent experience
  • Possess a proactive work style with the proven ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize and meet deadlines while maintaining a commitment to a high level of accuracy and quality in all aspects of work
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to work well in cross-functional teams
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles
  • Co-ordination of other RS staff and possible outside contractors associated with process improvement may be required
  • Knowledge of statistical methods including 6-Sigma techniques
  • Ability to effectively and creatively solve problems, propose conceptual solutions, and characterize/quantify potential risks
  • Thorough knowledge of and experience with Microsoft office products, AutoCAD, and SolidWorks


Working Conditions


  • Interaction with heavy machinery, moving equipment and limited movement of chemicals within the production area
  • Physically demanding tasks
  • Occasional travel to other RS Facilities; foreign and domestic, customer or supplier sites may be required
  • Industrial production environment
  • Hot & humid areas within the plant
