Process Engineering
Duties and Responsibilities:
● Fine-tune compound formula and process parameters to maximize quality and minimize labour and materials cost.
● Develop and troubleshoot new equipment during initial start-up.
● Fine-tune compound formula and process parameters to maximize quality and minimize labour and materials cost.
● Identify areas for capital expenditure improvements to optimize processes.
● Present ideas with estimated capital and ROI details.
● Develop, document, maintain and train staff on standard operating procedures (SOP’s) and process parameters.
● Support production with problem solving and support maintenance when equipment and/or process issues arise.
● Monitor and reduce scrap levels, disposition seconds into useable product.
● Maximize efficiency, output and safety of manufacturing processes through observations and measurements as well as by collecting and interpreting data.
● Develop and document bill of materials (BOM) information in ERP from raw material to packaging.
Quality Engineering:
● Provide engineering support to ensure consistent application of quality techniques.
● Resolve quality issues by identifying problems, examining solutions, implementing action plans, and providing resources.
● Determine quality improvement parameters relevant to all manufacturing processes.
● Execute appropriate problem-solving techniques for effective root cause analysis and successful corrective action.
● Brainstorm potential product concerns to help prevent field issues.
● Reviewing product for quality and conformance standards.
● Responsible for collecting, preparing and testing retained samples from production to ensure the finished products comply with product specifications and quality standards.
● Inspecting the products coming out of the production lines at regular intervals to ensure production personnel are following proper QA/QC procedures.
● Develop quality standards and provide quality systems training and assistance to production personnel on quality decisions and measurement techniques.
● Identify quality issues on a daily/weekly basis, record and analyze data and issue non-conformance review forms, quality alerts etc. to production and follow up on corrective actions.
● Developing work instructions, procedures and writing reports.
● Identifying quality and process improvement opportunities and implementing solutions.
● Providing technical and operational support to production.
● Assist in preparing and shipping R&D products to external testing facilities for testing and conduct internal R&D testing as required.
General:
● Responsible for achieving all operations department business, quality, and safety goals.
● Following all human resources and environment health and safety and Pliteq policy requirements.
● Responsible for keeping the testing laboratory clean, organized and well maintained.
● Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, benchmarking state-of-the-art practices, participating in professional societies.
● Occasional travel for quality audits or to investigate quality issues on site.
● Availability to work or be on call during evenings and/or weekends as required to support 24/7 manufacturing.
● All other duties as required.
Job Requirements:
● Engineering university degree, preferably Mechanical or Chemical
● Pursuing Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation
● Minimum of 3 years of experience in process engineering in a manufacturing environment
● Proven track record of driving continuous quality improvement in a manufacturing environment
● Exceptional process aptitude (i.e. understanding of cause and effect of various process parameters such as temperature, pressure, formulation etc.)
● Exceptional mechanical and electrical aptitude (i.e. intuitive understanding of mechanical and electrical equipment)
● Strong ability to organize and lead multiple, simultaneous projects
● Laboratory experience performing quality and performance testing
● 2D (AutoCAD) and 3D (Solidworks) CAD experience
● Strong organizational skills and time management skills
● Strong communication skills
● Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
● Clear criminal record check required
