POSITION: President, Shingwauk Kinoomaage Gamig

CONTRACT: Full Time, Permanent

RESPONSIBLE TO: SKG Board of Directors

Shingwauk Kinoomaage Gamig (SKG) is an Indigenous Institute based in Baawaating (Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario) which is located on the traditional grounds of the Garden River and Batchewana First Nations under the Robinson Huron Treaty territory.

The President will function as SKG’s chief executive officer and lead the development and implementation of degree-level education centred in Anishinaabe culture, values, and ways of knowing, including the establishment of a Land-based School of Education in partnership with Algoma University. The candidate should have demonstrated skills and experience in creating long-range strategies and the delivery of post-secondary programs in partnerships with academics, Knowledge Keepers, and leaders of local communities. This is an exciting opportunity for an innovative and transformational leader who will shape Shingwauk Kinoomaage Gamig as a centre of excellence in Anishinaabe education and build SKG’s capacity to provide degree-level programs.

It is preferred that the candidate holds a graduate degree in Education and/or a discipline relevant to Anishinaabe history and culture, has taught in a degree-level program, and has experience in academic administration in a post-secondary institution. SKG will give preferential treatment to Indigenous persons and in particular to Anishinaabe persons in selection for employment.
