Brant Community Healthcare System


Brant Community Healthcare System is a 329-bed, two-site community hospital serving Brantford, Brant County and surrounding communities. Brant Community Healthcare System is undergoing an exciting transformation and renewal focused on delivering exceptional patient-centred care and fostering a people-centred workplace culture. The Opportunity


We seek an engaging Clinical Leader who is compassionate and committed to delivering high-quality care and outstanding patient experiences, focused on innovation and transforming care and has a demonstrated track record of building successful teams and partnerships. The ideal candidate will be an accountable leader who can influence the commitment to people and practice and contribute to the delivery of transformational projects, including the redevelopment of the emergency department, master redevelopment of a new hospital and the implementation of a new Health Information System.



SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES/KEY DELIVERABLES:


Strategic Visioning & Governance


  • Ensures that the mechanisms for strategy deployment are embedded within the clinical operations.
  • Creates a shared understanding of both current and anticipated demands for clinical services.
  • Identifies emerging local, regional, provincial and national issues impacting clinical practice and operations and coordinates an appropriate response.
  • Lead the planning and implementation of strategic and operational programs and services by appropriately establishing a clear sense of priorities and resourcing.
  • Participates as an active (ex-officio member) of the Medical Advisory Committee and the Board of Directors of the Brant Community Healthcare System. Provides support to the Quality Committee of the Board.
  • Enables a learning culture and drives professional and Interprofessional practice educational strategies.
  • Develops collaborative relationships with internal and regional partners that align with the organization's strategic plan.
  • Champions exceptional professional and interprofessional practice standards, approaches and ethics and is a role model of professional standards and organizational values.


Leadership, Practice and Workplace Culture


  • Provides guidance and counsel to the executive team on nursing matters, such as establishing a clear sense of priorities and resources to pursue and fulfill them.
  • Promotes teamwork within the clinical portfolio. Appropriately mentors, coaches and provides development opportunities for direct reports and ensures that a learning culture is promoted within the portfolio.
  • Ensures that processes are in place to engage front-line providers - staff and physicians in decision-making that impacts practice and patient care.
  • Creates a practice environment that promotes cultural safety for indigenous populations served by the Brant Community Healthcare System and other minority or disadvantaged populations.
  • Ensures a consistent standard of nursing practice across the organization and ensures that there is an appropriate mechanism to ensure compliance with standards and regulations in other professional groups.
  • Ensures that there are processes in place for the establishment and updating of clinical policies, procedures, and standards for clinical care.
  • Creates an environment that encourages practice innovation and creativity to improve client outcomes and the patient and employee experience.
  • Ensures there are processes in place to validate the credentials of all regulated staff
  • Provides leadership in developing strategies to recruit, retain and recognize excellence in clinical staff and teams.


Operations Management and Leadership


  • Guides the resource allocation process amongst the clinical operations to ensure the achievement of the organization's quality and fiscal and strategic outcomes.
  • Promotes a collaborative approach in managing the relationships and Collective Agreements with labour partners
  • Demonstrates commitment to embedding financial accountability measures to achieve the financial goals established for the clinical portfolio.
  • Uses data and analytics to monitor and improve the clinical operation's utilization and performance and provides regular progress reports to the senior management team and CEO.
  • Leads the annual operational plan for clinical operations in collaboration with the clinical management, medical leaders and department chiefs.


Quality and Risk Management


  • Leads the process for sustaining and ensuring compliance with accreditation standards relevant to the accountabilities of the portfolio.
  • Monitor the quality of services through appropriate measures and improvement indicators.
  • Contributes to the risk management plan for the organization and oversees the implementation of appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
  • Prepares the clinical team to manage emergencies and develops operational contingencies to respond to internal and external disasters appropriately.
  • Accountable for meeting the quality and safety performance targets established through the Annual Quality Improvement Plan in compliance with the Excellent Care for All Act 2010 regulations.


Community Engagement and Patient Relations


  • Partners with regional providers to create clear standards to move patients along the service continuum where this service is unavailable at the BCHS.
  • Promotes and supports the collaborative relationships with representatives from the Patient Family Advisory Committee
  • Ensures that BCHS has appropriate representation in local and provincial forums relevant to the services at BCHS and consistent with our legislative and strategic mandates.
  • Establishes partnerships with other provider and community organizations and practices, searching out opportunities for service integration


Academics


  • Fosters and advances academic partnerships, creating a positive environment for learners.
  • Ensures that there are mechanisms of collaboration with professional schools, in particular schools of nursing, to facilitate appropriate clinical placements.



POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education:


  • Registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario or equivalent.
  • Master's Degree in Business Administration, Health Administration or related preferred.

Experience:


  • 10 years of progressive leadership experience, preferably five years in a senior director or executive-level role
  • Puts others in front of self to create a culture of trust and safety;
  • 5 years of interprofessional and professional practice leadership within an Ontario healthcare setting
  • Continuous quality improvement orientation, with the ability to inspire staff at all levels to continually evaluate and look for new and innovative ways of doing things;
  • A solid track record of leading change initiatives that impact organization-wide processes and culture;
  • The ability to effectively work in a team setting as well as independently, with demonstrated strong organizational and time management skills;
  • A leadership style that is transformational, visionary, creative, collaborative and supportive of the vision, goals, and mission and values of the organization;
  • The ability to establish respectful, collaborative and cooperative working relationships with physicians, community partners, academic partners and other program or service providers.
  • A high degree of technological savvy, able to lead teams in building on the impressive work to date and prepare for the next stage of technology evolution;
  • A passion for establishing and delivering the best possible clinical standards of care across a broad array of clinical domains, as well as a commitment to client/family-focused care;
  • Proven oral and written communication strengths and a demonstrated commitment to professional and staff development and the enhancement of academic excellence;
  • A passion for building a workplace where diversity, equity, and inclusion are foundational to investments in people and practices;


Mandatory Certification/Registration (if applicable):


  • Currently registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario or equivalent.
  • Certified Health Executive (CHE) designation is an asset.
