The mission of the Department of Medical Microbiology & Immunology is to provide an enriched environment for research, education and training in the field of infection and immunity that links molecular mechanisms to disease, treatment and prevention.

Position Summary

A full-time post-doctoral fellowship position is available in the Tsai lab ( https://www.ualberta.ca/medicine/about/people/details.html?n=sue-tsai ) at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, AB, Canada.

We are interested in exploring the underlying mechanisms linking immune dysregulation to diseases such as autoimmune type 1 diabetes and obesity-related insulin resistance, and cancer. We apply cutting-edge tools, such as multi-dimension flow cytometry, and RNA-seq, and metabolic profiling to study primary lymphocytes derived from animal models of autoimmune diseases and diet-induced obesity.

The projects to be undertaken are supported by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR)/JDRF and the Cancer Research Society and will explore the impact of insulin resistance T lymphocytes in antitumor immune surveillance. Another project will investigate the underlying metabolic alterations in pathogenic vs regulatory CD4+ and CD8+ T cells in autoimmune diabetes.

Candidates with a doctoral degree within 1 year and have experience in lymphocyte biology, molecular/cellular immunology, immunometabolism, in vivo mouse models, flow cytometry, and/or bioinformatics are encouraged to apply. Please send CV to [email protected]

Minimum Qualifications

• A strong publication record in high impact journals.
• A Ph.D. in immunology/metabolism/autoimmunity fields.

Preferred Qualification

• Extensive experience in immunology and/or immunometabolism techniques and/or single cell sequencing bioinformatic analysis will be considered an advantage.
