About The Position


The Centre of Applied Research, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship at Lethbridge College is looking for a postdoctoral fellow as a part of the AFC funded project “Optimizing yield, quality, and power consumption with full spectrum LED lights in greenhouse production systems”.


The project aims to evaluate the efficiency of different sources of supplemental greenhouse lights for production of 3 major greenhouse crops including cucumber, tomato and bell pepper crops in the research greenhouse at the Centre for Sustainable Food Production, which has commercial greenhouse setup, operated by Lethbridge College.


Position Details


The postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for the experimental setup, crop maintenance, data collection and analysis in this project, as well as report and manuscript writing under the supervision of the Project Lead and in close collaboration with the Greenhouse Manager.


  • Literature search and reviews
  • Assist in the experimental design and setup of the experiments
  • Work with greenhouse manager in ensuring operational functionality of main components of greenhouse facility
  • Guide/train students and other technical staff involved in project
  • Collect samples and conduct analytical testing of irrigation water, leachate and plant tissue
  • Write scientific manuscripts and project reports
  • Collect, organize, and analyze biometric data and yields
  • Prepare SOPs
  • Prepare project results for presentation at conferences and in publications
  • Maintenance of healthy greenhouse crop
  • Work with plant physiology equipment and sensors


Required Qualifications


  • Has experience working with plant physiology equipment, such as portable photosynthesis system (LiCor) and Leaf Area Meter.
  • Has an excellent command in statistical analysis.
  • Has knowledge in how to operate basic greenhouse equipment including climate controls and irrigation systems.
  • Has experience in commercial greenhouse production and can troubleshoot equipment independently.
  • Has knowledge of supplemental lights, greenhouse crop biology, nutrition, 1PM, plant pathology and crop production techniques in commercial greenhouses.
  • Functions well in a collaborative team with diverse backgrounds and experience.
  • Has analytical experience in water and plant chemistry.
  • Has a record of high-quality scientific publications.
  • Is a cross-disciplinary thinker.
  • PhD degree, obtained in the previous 5 years.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience with the greenhouse sector.
  • Affinity with applied research through previous involvement in projects with industry partners.


Salary Starting from $55,165 to $60,620 per year; commensurate with education and experience.
