The successful candidate will program and develop machine software for custom automated industrial equipment and production lines. We are looking for highly motived PLC Programmers who can program from scratch through to final commissioning, and remote service support. In addition, these professionals must have an excellent understanding of Electrical, Control, Mechanical, Pneumatic, and Hydraulic systems. They also will need to travel globally and at times with short notice. The candidate will be an integral part of controls teams in Canada, US and New Zealand. Office time will be spent at our design office in Lindsay, Ontario. The field of PLC Programmer includes a wide range of projects related to Bulk Material Handling Projects and/or Sawmill, Lumber Handling Machinery and R&D Projects.
Key Duties Include*
- Must have understanding and the ability to setup and configure industrial networks - Ethernet/IP.
- Automated Industrial Machinery PLC Logic Design and on-site commissioning.
- Collaborate with Mechanical, Fluid Power, Electrical and Controls teams from Kick-Off through to final commissioning of site(s).
- On-Site/remote support Troubleshooting and commissioning of Hardware including;
- Read and understand electrical schematics using AutoCAD Electrical and printed field drawings.
- Must have excellent understanding and practical knowledge of various motor control applications including Starter/Overload combinations, Soft Starters, Servo Drives, and VFD’s.
- Programming of Allen Bradley (ControlLogix and CompactLogix) using RSLogix and Studio 5000 software suite.
- Setup and configuration of CIP Motion applications for stand-alone and coordinated systems
- Design, Program and Implement operator interfaces and HMI’s using Allen Bradley’s Factory Talk software.
- Motor Control Panels, Consoles etc.

- Digital/Analogue Field Devices and IO
- Specialty sensors and Scanners
- Actuators, Motors, Encoders etc.
- Machine Vision Systems
- *Depending on the candidates’ strengths – may vary slightly
- Provide onsite project support when required which includes startup, debug and commissioning. Must be able to travel with short notice. (International travel) - (travel will be required on occasion).
- Participate in Remote Service Support of sites. This includes being scheduled for on call support of new and existing installations on a rotational basis with the controls group.
Desired Skills & Experience
- 2 years minimum experience working with automated industrial equipment and production lines. Working Experience in automation or electrical design is required.
- Experience in Autodesk AutoCAD 2019 or later, and Microsoft Office is an asset.
- Ability to work extra hours to ensure a successful project when required.
- Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team (both internal and remote), including mechanical, electrical, control, fluid power, and CAD support.
- Solid knowledge of electrical field devices. – limit switches of various types, encoders, scanners, etc.
- Organized, self-regulated and excellent time management skills required.
- College diploma as a minimum or equivalent industry experience.
- Excellent comprehension of PLC's, programming, and related hardwarewithin the Rockwell Architecture (Allen Bradley Products preferred).
- Excellent understanding of motor control, servos and VFDs etc.
- Working experience and understanding of automated industrial mechanical systems is a significant asset.
- Self-motivated, driven individual with excellent problem-solving skills, responsible for the completion of task at hand and to be a positive ambassador to our client base.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to communicate with Project Managers, Site/Office and Sales Teams on a regular basis.
