Work primarily takes place at North Campus Edmonton. This role is in-person.

Working for the Department/Faculty


Located in the Kaye Edmonton Clinic and falling under the self-funded umbrella of Campus Services , t he University of Alberta's Glen Sather Sports Medicine Clinic (GSSMC) is a multi-faceted facility that serves the needs of active individuals, whether you're a recreational player, a varsity athlete, or you just love to exercise and stay active. The clinic consists of an interdisciplinary team of physicians, surgeons, physical therapists, kinesiologists, massage therapists and orthotists who specialize in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal, sport and exercise-related concerns.


Position


This posting will be used to fill 3 casual PT positions


This position reports directly to the Glen Sather Sports Medicine Office Administrator. The individual plays an active role in the creation of a safe, efficient, effective practice environment for the patients, physical therapists, massage therapists and student learners in the clinic. This Individual will be involved in both direct and indirect patient care.


The individual will demonstrate professionalism, team work, strong organizational and time management skills and effective communication (verbal and written) skills. The Individual will demonstrate skills regarding appropriate patient care, patient positioning, and use of mobility aides, treatment modalities and exercise prescription. The individual will be directed and reports to the physical therapists they have been assigned to support. This assignment may change during the day and on a day to day basis.


Duties


  • Under the direction of the physical therapist provides teaching of therapeutic exercises
  • Orders supplies, braces, splints, equipment as needed to keep an inventory in the clinic store-The Next Step
  • Implements therapeutic interventions as directed by the physical therapist which can include thermal, electrical and mechanical modalities
  • Fits patient with brace/ splint aide as requested by clinician
  • Teaches crutch or cane walking to patient
  • Coordinating the flow of patients from the reception area to the physical therapist's treatment area
  • May schedule follow up appointments for the patient in the EMR
  • Ensures equipment is cleaned per recommended guidelines
  • Retrieves patient specific information from NetCare and EMR for the physiotherapist as required for care and in accordance with privacy legislation and HIA
  • Ensures the work space is cleaned and stocked between patients
  • May copy information for patients as directed by the physiotherapist
  • Process patient payments and direct billing requests
  • Calibrate equipment and performs the biomechanical testing of patients
  • Ensures all equipment and supplies are returned to appropriate space when no longer in use
  • Reinforces the physical therapist's explanation and provides verbal instructions and demonstration to assist the patient in understanding the treatment plan


Minimum Qualifications


  • Physical Therapy Assistant Program Diploma/Certificate
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts 06:30-14:00, 09:00-16:30, 12:30-20:00h, and occasional Saturdays


Preferred Qualifications


  • Familiar with use of EMR system
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Minimum of 1 year of related work experience in a physical therapy clinic or in hospital setting
  • Self-directed
