Part-Time Athletic Therapist Jobs

Support Staff Part-Time Temporary Position (August 2023 – November 2023)
Under the direction of the Manager, Recreation, Performance & Health, the Athletic Therapist works within the Athletics & Recreation Department providing healthcare services to intercollegiate athletes. The Athletic Therapist’s primary job duties are to provide service to varsity student-athletes with acute and chronic injuries in the clinical setting and to provide on-field emergency care during team practices and games. The incumbent should provide overall health and wellness care to positively impact student athletes’ sports performance and success as a student-athlete. This position will be required to work evenings and weekends to serve the needs of the varsity athletics schedule.
Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus. This position will complete work tasks primarily at the Doon Campus, with additional facilities used within Kitchener, Waterloo, and Cambridge for varsity practices and competition. The incumbent should also be prepared to travel across Ontario for varsity competition.
Responsibilities

• Completing required paperwork in accordance with supervisor request, including SOAP notes, emergency action plans, incident reports, pre-physical exam collection, attending doctor’s appointments, concussion assessment and management
• Attending varsity practices and league games to provide on-field emergency care to varsity student athletes
• Medical onboarding and athlete medical history of all incoming and returning varsity athletes
• Sourcing medical & therapeutic equipment as requested by the Manager
• Collaborating on departmental sports medicine policies and processes
• Preventative taping and wrapping, attending to acute musculoskeletal injuries (fractures, sprain, strains, etc.), attending to emergency situations (anaphylaxis, fractures, shock, etc.), acutely managing head and neck injuries, along with other urgent and non-urgent medical situations
• Preparing emergency action plans for homes games, tournaments, and when travelling with teams
• Collaborating and communicating with health care providers and high-performance staff to benefit the overall well-being of varsity student-athletes: Sports Medicine Physicians, Surgeons, Nutritionists, Chiropractors, Strength & Conditioning Specialists, Bracing Consultants, Academic Coaches, Counsellors, etc.
• Assessing and treating acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries of student athletes during in-clinic appointments utilizing exercise, therapeutic modalities, manual therapy, education, sport-specific movements, etc.

Qualifications

• Continuing education, workshops, and/or certifications in manual therapy techniques preferred
• Two years of experience with contact and/or non-contact sports coverage in a high-performance setting is preferred
• Certified and member in good standing with the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association
• Four-year Bachelor’s Degree specialized in Athletic Therapy, Health Sciences, Kinesiology, or related field
• First Responder Certification through an accredited provider
