TEMPORARY FULL-TIME POSITION - MANAGEMENT - 1 YEAR CONTRACT
Job Title:Park and Zoo Operations Supervisor
Reports to:Manager Riverview Park & Zoo
Department:RPZ
Location:1230 Water St. N., Peterborough
Rate:Competitive Compensation, OMERS pension optional
Position Overview
This position is a key member of the Riverview Park & Zoo management team who is responsible for supporting the ongoing operations of the Park & Zoo’s objectives and goals though the administration of the resources, staff supervision, volunteer programs and project management. This position also provides budgeting and administrative support.
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES
Operations
- Plan, schedule, assign and supervise the daily operational and capital work of the Park personnel ensuring activities are in adherence to Company and regulatory standards and that department goals/objectives are met.
- Enforce safe work practices/procedures. Assist in development and implementation of departmental safety programs and procedures to ensure that staff has a safe and productive work environment.
- Work as the point of contact for contractors and obtain quotes for materials and services necessary.
- Participate in the recruitment, coaching and development of staff to optimize individual and team performance.
- In conjunction with other supervisory staff, plan and allocate work to assigned staff; monitor/inspect the work; correct as required; report progress.
- Administer/enforce policies, practices, operating procedures, and the collective agreement.
- Coordinate all aspects of the volunteer program including volunteer recruitment, orientation/training, placement, supervision, as well as volunteer recognition and retention efforts. Develop, maintain, and expand partnerships with volunteer recruitment sources (secondary schools, colleges, and the community).
- Identify, develop, and support the implementation of new conservation initiatives as well as broadening the impact of existing activities.
- Point of contact in the absence of the Manager and Curator
Administration
- Ensure that all required administrative support and required documentation is complete and correct with respect to the department functions.
- Complete and/or approve staff daily time sheets, purchase requisitions, invoices etc.
- Provide and coordinate staff training to ensure safe and efficient performance, and
- Manage gift shop revenue sources.
- Ensure all resource development activities and functions are in accordance with legal and ethical standards, including the Canada Revenue Agency Guidance, Fundraising by Registered Charities.
- Maintenance and development of records, correspondence, and relationships
- Key business user of Perfect Mind Customer Relationship Management (CRM) including software updates, maintain content and coach students and volunteers as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Academic and Professional Qualifications:
Advanced, College Diploma/ Trade Certificate
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in staff supervision in an operations environment.
Technical Skills:
- Strong communications skills, both verbal and written.
- Supervisory experience in a unionized environment and demonstrated ability to motivate, lead, work co-operatively and promote a professional multi-disciplinary team.
- Work experience in a park environment and experience in handling a variety of live animals would be an asset.
- Proven ability to function independently and a demonstrated team player with excellent interpersonal skills with a high degree of professionalism.
- Ability to represent the Park & Zoo in a manner appropriate to the values and culture of the organization.
- Demonstrated experience and competency in communications: internal and external correspondence, composition (reports, presentations, department reference documents, etc.) direct interaction with staff, suppliers/contractors, visitors/guests and the media.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and WHMIS.
- Excellent working knowledge and experience using MS Office suite applications.
- Demonstrated excellent attendance record.
- Must complete and be clear of a Criminal Record Check.
- Valid Class G driver’s licence and good driving record.
