Summary


Reporting to the General Manager – Ontario Region, the Operations Manager is responsible for the daily operation of the Acton Branch. The position is focused on the internal business processes supporting the operational functions within the branch. The Operation Manager’s responsibilities are categorized into 3 areas: Operations, People Management, and Safety. The position manages warehouse operations, purchasing/inventory, and branch administration.


EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS


Operations / Administration / Safety


  • Collaborates with Administration to ensure proper workflow and compliance with established processes and policies.
  • Provides the strategic direction to achieve and maintain a safe and efficient warehouse.
  • Provides support to the operations and purchasing teams as required and ensures compliance with established processes and policies.
  • Creates and maintains a positive work environment.


People Management


The Operations Manager is directly responsible for four employees: 2 Purchasers, Admin Supervisor, Operations Supervisor


  • Addresses employee issues in a fair and consistent manner, working closely with Human Resources.
  • Conducts performance assessments on a regular basis.
  • Manages and develops direct reports.
  • Creates and maintains a positive, productive, and transparent work environment and team atmosphere.
  • Develops constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintains them over time.


Experience


  • A track record of success as an accomplished supervisor/manager with proficiency in supervising a mid-sized business.


Requirements


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES


  • Experience with optimizing warehouse layouts and efficiencies, ideally with 100,000 sq ft+ footprints.
  • Excellent organizational and team-building skills
  • Able to prioritize, problem-solve and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures for excellent customer service, hiring, training, motivating, and developing staff, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance
  • Distribution experience with industrial materials or hard goods
  • Ability to clearly communicate with internal and external parties in a professional and courteous manner
  • Good computer skills with demonstrated proficiency in Word, Excel, and ERP systems
  • Proven experience in coaching and training staff
  • Experience managing in a union environment


EDUCATION


  • Post-secondary education in business.
