Position Overview
The Safety and Licensing Manager plays a key role in the leadership and performance of nuclear safety analysis projects to help Calian Nuclear ensure the safety and security of Canada’s nuclear infrastructure.
In this role, you will lead and manage technical projects and will be expected to provide guidance, and mentorship, to other staff within the safety analysis team. In addition to supporting projects in Calian Nuclear’s core areas of expertise, you will support the continued growth of Calian Nuclear, by expanding the scope of services currently being offered to clients in the nuclear industry in the area of safety analysis and introducing new and innovative approaches to support new advanced reactor technologies.
Responsibilities
  • Review, verify, and approve complex technical reports
  • Provide support to business development and technical aspects of proposals
  • Be accountable for the technical work undertaken by the team
  • Assists with the identification of new markets and clients
  • Provide mentorship and assist in the development of junior technical staff within the Calian Nuclear team
  • Working with management and technical experts across the business to support the growth of the Calian Nuclear team
  • Support technical projects and interface with clients
Qualifications
  • Strong initiative and a drive to grow business and innovate
  • Familiarity with applicable CNSC REGDOCs (e.g., REGDOC-2.4.1, REGDOC-2.4.2) and CSA standards
  • Experience leading teams, mentoring, and training technical staff
  • Subject matter expert in one or more safety analysis area (deterministic and probabilistic safety analysis, design assist analysis, hazard analysis, criticality safety, severe accident analysis, and management of safety issues)
  • BSc, BASc, MSc, or Ph.D. in relevant field (i.e., nuclear, engineering, sciences)
  • P.Eng. or equivalent certification or experience
  • Proficiency in relevant nuclear safety computer codes (e.g., MCNP, SCALE, CATHENA, GOTHIC, ADDAM, Phoenix RM, CAFTA)
  • High attention to detail; follows through to ensure accuracy and comprehensiveness
  • Experience working with Canadian nuclear utilities in the area of safety analysis
Additional Requirements
  • This is a hybrid role requiring a presence onsite at our Kanata, ON location. You will be asked to come into the office as needed but will also have the flexibility to work from home.
  • You will be required to obtain a Government Security Clearance at the Reliability level
  • There may be some travel, up to 20%
