The Membership & Communications Manager plays a critical role in supporting the organization's various functions for their clients, including member management, website management, communications, professional development coordination, event planning, social media engagement, grant applications, general office administration, and more. This role requires a proactive and detail-oriented individual who can multitask and effectively collaborate with various stakeholders. This role will largely focus on work for one client, but there are elements that may be more generalized to Messenger Bag Media as well.
Responsibilities
Membership Acquisition, Onboarding & Management:
·Assist in reviewing the Client’s current onboarding and membership process to identify areas for improvement.
·Define the project scope, timeline, and key deliverables.
·Develop a comprehensive marketing and social media plan to promote membership acquisition.
·Create a new member application template that streamlines the application process.
·Develop a new member package containing relevant information about the association and its benefits.
·Coordinate with Distribution and Finance/Accounting teams to implement necessary updates.
·Assist in onboarding new members, ensuring a smooth and efficient process.
·Provide support to current members during the membership renewal process.
·Assist with membership financial recording, reporting, statements, and data management.
·Assist in internal department communications and other departmental tasks, as needed.
Website & Communications:
·Update the website with events, resources, news articles, and announcements.
·Manage MailChimp for creating Member Bulletins and time-sensitive email communications.
·Assist in the transition to a new Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system, ensuring data accuracy and continuity.
Government Relations and Advocacy:
·Assist with ongoing communications and relationships with relevant government officials and key partners.
·Assist with consultations and advocacy efforts related to funding support for the magazine sector.
·Assist with identifying potential grants and funding opportunities relevant to Magazines Industry initiatives.
·Assist with research, drafting, and submitting proposals for grant funding.
Event Planning and Delegations:
·Assist in strategizing and organizing event planning and delegations, as needed.
·Manage logistics, budget, travel planning, and communication for events and meetings, as needed.
Professional Development Resources and Promotion:
·Assist in brainstorming and outreach to produce professional development resources for members including but not limited to Hotsheets, Webinars, Video Digests and Panel discussions.
·Promote registration, attendance, and awareness of resources to members and non-members.
Social Media Engagement:
·Create and execute a monthly social media schedule to engage the audience and increase followers.
·Post content related to webinars, hotsheets, member highlights, and announcements.
·Repost and support members' and provincial associations' social media postings.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated abilities in executing communications, meeting deadlines, and managing multiple priorities, as well as event planning and implementation.
- Speak and write in French is considered an asset
- Grant writing experience is considered an asset.
- Speak and write English fluently.
- 3-6 years post-undergraduate or college work-related experience.
- Minimum 1 year working with member retention and acquisition, or relevant experience.
- Ability to be flexible and take on new tasks, projects and responsibilities as assigned.
- Experience using a web content management system, specifically WordPress in addition to virtual meeting and conferencing platforms.
- Exceptional publication-quality writing for diverse audiences (including online) and keen editing skills.
- Comfortable working independently and in a small team environment.
- Experience using a variety of social media channels.
